Cox 22 in HD???

I know many of us give Cox hell, however there's probably a good reason why it's taken so long to broadcast in HD. Of course this is still pocket change for Cox. They may have even purchased ESPN surplus equipment.

At one of the recent home games we were looking at the cameras they were using and it said HD on it. So you might be right.

If that was Cox 22, that stands for "Haertl Definition" - very close to "Etch-A-Sketch" resolution.

I still wonder why they don't try to do more with 22. More HS or small college games. It doesn't just have to be Wichita schools either. I think they could utilize it better and bring in more revenue. As it is, it's pretty much just radar and Shocker sports. With a rare HS game on it.

I think they've broadcast Washburn, Pitt State, Ft Hays and other MIAA games too. But I agree they could do more than just the weather.

Cox doesn't employ many people for this channel other than Mark Ewing. If you notice, everyone that's on-air on it is from local television or radio around here. Haertl, Leon Liebl, Mark Davidson, Chris Allison, etc. None of them are employed by Cox on a day-to-day basis and Cox has to pay them more than a full-time staff person to make it worth their while and work around their regular schedules. Another reason why they don't do more is because of the costs of doing games. Bringing in satellite trucks (usually from Metro Sports in KC), hiring cameramen and on-air talent, directors and the like costs money. Probably more money than Cox wants to spend. Not many people want to sit at home and watch a Wichita East vs Wichita Southeast game on television and not many businesses want to buy ad space for those games.

You sure that wasn't an ESPN or even FSN game? Doubt it was a game with Cox 22 cameras.

No it wasn't one of the nationally televised game (iirc it was either the bu or siu game). I wondered at the time if it wasn't maybe the opponents local telecast.
