Was Adam Emmenecker really the best player in the Valley in 2008?

Stutz should receive the most improved player award and I mean that as sincerely as possible. His junior to senior year has been remarkable. His post moves have went from falling towards the basket like a clumsy oak, to showing a nice complement of finesse moves. He still lacks strength and vertical, but he is getting better. He is no doubt still growing into his body. Did I mention I wish he would have red-shirted?

By the way, does anybody know what coaches he worked with between his junior and senior year? Was this just a physical development thing or did he actually attend a camp? Some of the moves he has been showing on the floor seem more about education than growth. He still lacks a lot of physical definition so it's hard to judge his physical development. Many on here will remember the topless shots I posted of Paul Miller before his senior year. That boy was buff. Give Stutz that body and he's a first-rounder.

Speaking of Miller, I saw him play Summer pickup after playing a few years in Europe. He was a completely different man at 25 than he was his senior year at WSU. He was a beast! He went to the rim with authority on dunks and rebounds and was ripping everybody a new a-hole. Europe and a little more muscle maturity freed Paul from any hint of FiFi-ness. At 25, Stutz could be a similar story.

Garrett attended a camp for several weeks over the summer. I can't recall the name of it. I believe it was up North somewhere.

I seem to recall some mention that GS went to a big man camp and/or spent time at Butler working with Gordon Heyward over the summer.

Stutz didn't practice during WSU's five-session July workouts because of a sprained left ankle. His summer, however, has been filled with basketball. He spent much of a June at Champions Academy, a basketball camp in Indianapolis. The players worked on basketball in the morning and conditioning in the afternoon. Some nights they played pickup games at Butler University.

Is Garrett good enough to be All American ? I think the answer is yes. I'd like to hear other's opinions on this.

One thing that's going to erode Doug's support down the stretch....everyone's seeing now that he is a phantom defensive player, and defense wins championships. The kid is remarkably talented offensively, and works very hard to get open, but expends almost nothing on the other end of the court.

While I don't expect those who vote to dig this deep, if you boil the numbers down to per minute production - MVC games only - Garrett looks even better by comparison.

The argument could also be made that playing more minutes makes one more valuable. Just a different way to look at it.

GS is not an AA IMO. I think they usually put 10 on the HM team for a total of 20, but I still don't see Smith making it. GS is also beating Doug in 3 pt %. I do see Smith on the All Defense team.

Creighton fans desperately want McD to get the award to salvage a season in which they are now looking up at WSU in the standings. They also now have to watch WSU win a Valley title in a league they were the overwhelming favorites in. I think Garrett would rather WSU win a championship than get the award. Who knows how it'll all shake out but in the end, Stutz will be a champion at the end of the day. Dougy will not.

I think PoY should be based on only Valley games. CU had an OOC SoS about 100 points below WSU's. McD got a lot of his early-season stats against weaker opponents than WSU was facing. I can't see why the league would want to reward players for the weakness of their schedule. Imagine the stats Stutz would have if he played for Jankovich.

Let's see if I got this right.

Our previous game plan of late has been to first try and get the ball inside to Stutz and if that isn't available, then go back outside and have Rags, Ben, Toure, Kyles or Williams shoot the three.

And now the game plan is to try and get the ball inside to Stutz, and if that doesn't work, Stutz shoots the three.

Works for me.

This should settle the debate regarding who is POY in my opinion. Stats from MVC-only games below. Dougie only eclipses Garrett in Points Per Game, but considering he's shot the ball so many more times than GS, he should. Also, GS plays for the MVC #1 seed.
