    Dumb bastard.

    That is all.
Did you watch us play last year? It wasn't great.

Maybe we shouldn't judge a HC tenure on 3 games.

    • I think the game plan for us was to get the ball inside to Mo. That plan worked out pretty well for the most part. But it also had its bad side, too. As soon as Mo got the ball, it wasn't going back out. I didn't pay attention to whether anyone was open from 3 for a kickout. Maybe that was all that was needed to get TE going.

I do think MJ could average double figures for rebound if he would stop fumbling the ball out of bounds or falling down and traveling. The same rule applies to MU and Ricky Council 4.
It's really easy to fumble the ball out of bounds when a player on the other team runs into you at near full speed and hacks at the ball. That happened repeatedly. The refs were not calling fouls on that. It was like they were using football refs, and if the safety hit the receiver after the receiver had his hands on the ball, it was a legal hit. Once Drake figured out they weren't getting fouls called for that they did it on every rebound near the end line. That got them a lot of team rebounds and it was how they won the rebounding battle.

Didn't even get a shot at SMU, or get Memphis at home. Definitely seems like we could have played ourselves into a 7-10 seed if some other things went the right way. Such a weird year.
Yes, but we just lost to an 11 seed.

            • The lack of defensive rebounding killed WSU all year and I think if WSU had Echenique they would have a Top 50 (at least) defense.

Also, finished 291st in effective field goal percentage.

              2021 - 291st
              2020 - 285th
              2019 - 320th

It pains me to think this, but I think it's a talent issue.

It's a miracle we won as many games as we did this year.

                Aargh,
Quality poster and sure a good guy.
But trying to use the officiating as the reason for this debacle of a loss is not legit.
It was evenly called all night and both teams has their opportunities. WSU had more, but decided not to take advantage at the time to bury the hatchet.
It was a game where Sr leadership was in demand and unfortunately, our Sr leadership was AWOL.
As mentioned, AG needs to move on with his journey. He was a nice fill in for this year, but this program can, and has to do better.
We are not competing with Indy State and UNI anymore. And need to recruit accordingly.

Specifically, JB needs to find a new home. Nice athlete, but not AAC level. If we were still in the Valley, could wait a year or so to possible develop.
                Those were the old days.

These days, we need AAC level athletes and they are needed now. As mentioned, they are out there, the staff needs to go get them.
No more of going to war in this league with 6'7" post players.
The reputation of WSU has been established, now the coaching staff needs to seal the deal with of type of players needed.
Or go get the coaches who can.

                That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

I think all the transfers we've had has hurt us more than we like to think.

                  • Honestly with who we have, we just arent very good. There is definitely a lack of talent issue that only so much effort can overcome. Our bigs were an issue all year and as much as I like TW it’s probably best for both that he move on. IBPC is not an AAC big. Bilau had his moments early but never built on them. Monzy is a high energy guy but not much else.

I’m in the minority but I actually like AG. He is quick and has a great midrange game. He is able to break a press by himself which is something we haven’t had in a long time. He struggled at finishing around the rim but I would take him back in a heartbeat. I think he is gone though. Build around DD, TE, and RC4.

Chaunce and Jaden are unknowns at the point. Chaunce has the frame to contribute and I look forward to seeing him on the floor. If Trevin plays next year we are in trouble. CP has zero confidence in shooting. How many wide open shots did he pass up? I like him though.

I would say we have TW and AG scholarships open plus someone leaving. Maybe even two people leaving.

                    • Maybe, just maybe, sometime in the not too distant future I can wrap my head around what happened this year (to say nothing of tonight).

Winning a conference championship and making the tournament should always be celebrated (regardless of any asterisks).

Coach Brown did not ask to be put in this position, and I believe he did the very best he could given the situation.

If you would have told me 5 hours ago that we're going to shoot 34%, 17% & 50% from the line, get outrebounded and doubled up on assists, I'd would have said we lost around 93-52. At least I would have got the 52 part right.

Just not sure what to say except that it hurts those kids and coaches a lot more than it hurts us.

I would like to point out while he did not ask to be put in this position, he should have recognized when he was in over his head. ADDB should have recognized he was not qualified to search for a head coach.

This team regressed over the last month and that's not a good sign for a team with so much talent and youth.
By then the end of the year, JC players should have it down by now. Freshman and Sophomores should get a the picture of what it take and what the next level is all about.

I could say something about a 5th year PG, but AG is AG and you get what you got. Personally, he needs to move on. Same with TW.
Work with the talent on board and of course, recruit better level talent.
                            Trust me, its out there.
And then, know what to do with it, to coach/develop to the level required.

                            That is all.
I’m going to **** on this a bit, Ref, maybe because I am discouraged by the state of college basketball. Teams win now because they steal talent, buy talent, once in a while actually find talent and run simple offenses that feature skills of the players not coaches. It’s AAU ball right now in most cases. So if you can do the above and somehow manage to get players to play hard and get along, you can win the majority of your games. Case in point on playing hard and unselfishly: Mike Boynton (and I really like him too). All you seem to do when you “don’t take it” is cause players to leave the program because someone else is already in their ear. I despise it and until there are some major changes to the state of college basketball, it will get worse.
