  • All I know is ever since the Senior-lead team of the 2017-2018 season took over, the “Play Angry” version of the Shox have been a rare sighting.

Whether coaching or players has had more to do with that, I don’t know. They both share blame.

I wish we could recapture that energy and effort on all ends of there court. That was when CKA was at it’s zenith.

So right when we went to the AAC.

You think the Seniors on that team would have had a better mindset in an inferior league?

It likely would have been worse.

I actually think he did a line change or at least 4 out of 5 as it started to get out of hand.

Those seniors got a big head from all the accolades going into that year.

-He did not ask for this job, nor was it in the best interest of anybody for him to turn it down once FHCGM resigned
-For those of you deathly afraid he will be the permanent head coach, wins and losses are only part of what goes into that decision, so you can root for him.
-In a league where most coaches have coached over 400 games, he has coached fourteen. Wouldn’t you think he may have some things to improve on?
-Finally if you just like sniping at those who defend him, understand most of those people are not 100% behind him to be our permanent coach, but are 100% behind defending him because there is no way in hell anybody on this board could handle this mess better than him.

              That is f’ing all.
Well said! I think he is doing a good job. We are tied for 1st in the loss column. Some of Shocker Nation have lost their minds. Is this team perfect? No but neither were Coach Marshall’s team. His saying was strive for perfection and obtain excellence. This team is playing their butts off. Can they improve? Of course. Enjoy the ride this year especially with all the crap that has happened since last March. I don’t know if Coach Brown will get the job but I think he has kept the ship afloat and it is steaming forward.

              • This team is certainly outperforming last year's team. I think there were additions by subtraction throughout the program. Whether IHCIB is the long term answer or not remains to be seen. All I can judge is 20-21>19-20.

I have shared this before. I agree that addition by subtraction is huge. But I think an even bigger reason is the emergence of a true, without question, player/leader of the team we have not had for many years. Tyson is more than just a stud 2 guard on the court. This is his team. I think that does wonders for the confidence and psyche of a group of guys.

I think this a premature take.

Last year team was a bubble team. At this point WSU is not even in the discussion with a NET of 76 (Compared to NET of 41 last year). WSU Kenpom numbers is slightly better offensively 108.3 vs 105.6, but has taken significant step back defensively 97.9 vs 90.1 (which was Top 8). Unless WSU defense firms up, this team will be untrustworthy.

I agree with both of you. I do enjoy watching this team more than last but think it’s too early to say which team is ultimately better.

I’m not sure how much I trust KenPom numbers this year but you’re right, our defense still has a lot of room for improvement. There’s X number of possessions every game where we just go brain dead and give up easy buckets.

You say it better. I enjoy watching this team more than last year's team. 2nd half of Tulane being the exception and example of stretches if brain dead play.

Doing the little things consistently separates the good from the great teams. We aren’t there yet.

Yet I don’t think we’re that far off either. Marginal improvements in rebounding, defense, and shot selection would yield significant results, IMO.

The million dollar question is what’s it going to take and can we do it this year.

                            • I was pretty hard on Mo after this game. I still think his defense could have been better but after looking at the stat sheet I’ve concluded he wasn’t as bad as I initially thought.

He only attempted two shots so it wasn’t like he was forcing things. Only two turnovers so not terrible. He grabbed five boards. For what it’s worth, his plus/minus was +5.

I still don’t put a ton of faith in that stat but I don’t know where to find real plus minus for NCAA games. Dexter was -1 which seems odd given the rest of his line.
