  • Ah, yes, this old thread.

    vs. Jacksonville St.
    Defensive Reb - 72%
    Offensive Reb - 39%

For reference, the average defensive rebound rate in the NBA is 73%. Average offensive rebound rate is 27%.

Last year 72% would’ve have been ranked 245th. 39% would have been good for second in the NCAA.

In 2020-2021 Jacksonville St grabbed 31% of available offensive rebounds, 39th best in the country. We held them below that number.

Obviously it’s just one game but early returns say that defensive rebounding has improved and offensive rebounding is elite.

Ideally we would have a defensive rebound rate between 75%-80% so while we took a step forward in the first game there is still plenty of room to improve. Obviously, JSU is a very good offensive rebounding team so it’s possible our overall number will improve as we play different teams.

They had some long athletes… looked like an AAC team to me.

I hear you. But it is just one game. Go Shocks.

        • vs South Alabama
          Defensive - 90%
          Offensive - 26%

While it was just an average offensive rebounding day, securing 90% of available defensive rebounds is pretty good.

I will note that South Alabama rarely sent anyone to the offensive glass, preferring instead to prevent transition opportunities. That being said, we didn’t come anywhere close to that number last year, even against opponents who employed similar strategies and/or had an aversion to crashing the offensive glass.

If I remember correctly, that is the same coaching philosophy employed by Kruger at OU. He doesn't care a great deal about offensive boards.

            • Rebounding was once again Huge Weakness in this game. By far the worst effort of the year. Tarleton was aggressive going after the ball but for ****s sake box out! It’s not that hard.
