Gal Mekel

I just checked out the league leaders on the Valley stats web site.

Mekel is 12th in the league in both assists and assist/turnover ratio.

Maybe we have a few fans concentrating on the negatives instead of the positives. Many Valley teams have 3-guard sets. If that's half the teams - then there are 25 guards on the 10 Valley teams. That puts Mekel in the top half of all Valley guards in both assists and assist/turnover ratio.

Not bad for a Sophomore who's learning the American game while learning 2 systems in 2 years under 2 different coaches.

Gal frustrates me as well. Part of the problem is that he was much over-hyped by the previous staff. Stuff like "NBA potential", etc, creates unrealistically high expectations, then disapointment if those expectations are not met. That's not his fault, but mine. We do have a couple guys that could make 1st or 2nd team all-league someday, but we need more. I don't see that kind of promise from Mekel, which is not to say that he cannot have a fine, productive career for us.

One game doesn't erase a season of disappointment. Hopefully, Gal can be consistent and this will turn things around.

Unfortunately, contrary to what a lot of you think, I'm a fan of WSU and a thus a fan of Gal. So I'm very happy how well he and the game turned out. How many TO's did Gal have? I wasn't able to watch the game, but I know there was like 17 in the first half for the team.

One or two of the turnovers could have easily been charged to the receiver... they had big time fumble-itis the first half... it was torture to witness the carnage on the tube. I'm going to need a week of confession to be forgiven for what I said during the debacle.

If their PG (Maniscuso sp?) had 9, Gal had 9.
