Cotton’s lilies asked of Cotton his Fr. on either offense or Defense. Murry was our main player with Kyles playing too. After they left Cotton did more but mainly on defense. It wasn’t until his junior year, he took on major minutes.
Dexter has been a major part of both offense and defense both years. His free throw percentage last year shows consistency of shooting.

    1) We will not know how this story ends until DD's career at WSU is over. Therefore, things could change a lot, up or down. What we do know, is that his offensive numbers took a bit of a hit his sophomore year. Now, as an upperclassman, his numbers are down from last year.

    2) Yes, TC came to a WSU team with 5 seniors and 2 juniors, yet all of them played under 30 minutes, 5 played 25 or less minutes, and he managed just shy of 10 mpg, which I believe surprised a lot of us here.

    3) DD came into a situation with very few upperclassmen, thus, a lot of available minutes to underclassmen. We have no idea how TC would have done in that situation, but he showed he could demand minutes on a team full of upperclassmen.

    4) While DD's FT% last year was very good (84.6), that was up from 66.1% his freshman year. This year, that 84.6% FTs is not doing him or the team much good if he cannot get to the line. Through 5 games, he is 0-1 FTs.

I'm not anti DD at all, but I feel he has a lot of untapped potential, much more than TC. TC pretty much maxed out his potential each and every year. I do not believe we have yet seen that from DD and it's not necessarily on him. If we do see him hit his potential, this year and next, I will most likely be in total agreement with you both.

The 3 point line got lengthened 1 or 2 years ago. Even before that Shamet’s best season was 44%.

Tulsa had a super weak schedule as well in the unbalanced AAC scheduling set up.

Yes they did. And they beat all those teams and were better than WSU.

                  • According to the article in the paper the Shocks tried to treat it as a scrimmage. Coach said they got done what they wanted like working on trapping, pressure defense and getting the younger guys some time that had not seen much of the floor. Good first half shooting but was disappointed with the final numbers but those came with 1 for 7 shooting from Chaunce and Seymor. Keeping in mind that it was Emporia State The first half played out well but with the introduction of new people and different line ups it was a ragged 2nd half. Build and move on. Go Shocks

                    • Jackson, Porter, and Council all impressed me in their Shocker debuts. Even Bilau provided a glimpse of his potential in limited minutes against OSU. Seymour and Jenkins? They looked much more like what I would expect of freshmen.

But then again, the other four made their debuts alongside the vets. I suspect the point of playing the newbies all together was to serve a little humble pie (look, guys, do it your way and you’ll struggle even against ESU) and to give the coaches plenty of teaching material. Unless we add another ESU type opponent this was probably the last opportunity to do such a thing.

I doubt those two will play much, if at all, against USF but the next time they get in a game I imagine it will be in a much more limited and restricted role with the buffer of the upper class men.

My newcomer power rankings as of 12/20
                      1. Ricky Council. Still needs to work on his defense, particularly focusing off ball, but what he’s done so far is eye popping. He’s the most athletic guy on the team, an animal on the glass, attacks the rim relentlessly, incredible body control to finish at the rim, very good ball handler, and impressive on ball defender for a frosh in his third game.
                      2. Craig Porter. Smooth, fluid, under control, cerebral guard who is always looking for the open man. Outstanding rebounder and is going to surprise other teams with his shot blocking ability. He’s like a safety blanket out on the court. Might be the first D1 player to attempt fewer than 10 shots in a season.
                      3. Clarence Jackson. Athletic and relentless on the boards. He also has an ability to be another scoring option similar to but lesser than Council but he’s out of control at times and so makes more mistakes. Does too much ball watching on defense. The desire and ability is there but he needs more time to allow the game to slow down mentally.
                      4. Josephat Bilau. Most length on the team, tenacious rebounder, still looks lost on defense and offense. Like others have said, it’s going to require patience. If Mo and Poor Bear continue playing like they have the last two games that’s a luxury we can afford.
                      5. Chauncey Jenkins, Jaden Seymour. We’ve seen so little and what we did was obviously not designed to make them look good so this is really an N/A until they get more time with the core guys.

                        • People comparing Tekele Cotton to anybody is a farse. He was a special person who had many tangibles and even more intangibles. He was a winner through and through. I've met both Tekele and Dexter and there's no comparison between the two with respect to attitude. Tekele was warm and friendly while Dexter was... not.

Had Tekele been 6'5, he'd have had a very nice career in the Association. People have no idea how great our "dream team" really was. Even Evan Wessel with his bricks was special. He came from good Shocker athletic stock and was an intelligent, cold blooded warrior. Think about the mental toughness one must have to throw up as many bricks as he did and still come up with clutch shots and make such valuable glue guy plays. 99% of us would have hung our heads after all those clangs and groans from the crowd. Not Evan, he just kept collecting W's and rings. A man can live his entire life without attaining that level of maturity. Evan did it as a kid. Talk about a bright future.

Good call. I intentionally left off AG because I feel like he cemented himself as one of our best and most valuable players from day one. Not mentioning Trevin was an oversight. I would put him behind Monzy and ahead of Seymour and Jenkins. I still like his athleticism, handle, defensive tenacity and he seems to have an ability to get a jumper off whenever we need. I think once he gets more comfortable in the system and running the offense he can provide some minutes behind Gilbert and Porter.
