  • we're only going as far as Toure and Garrett can carry us this year. Other guys may have their nights, but these two guys are the horses and we need them both.

Losing Garrett is a hole we simply probably can't fill this year.
Take out that "probably" at the end of this and it's the perfect comment.

Oh that team. The chickens shall remain nameless. I didn't know that team even allowed itself to play road games. Surely the ncaa and the big whatever they are today, exempt them from playing on the road.

I guess it is just non-BCS teams on neutral courts that beat them.

This is because he knows in his heart that if we can't stop people with a man defense we will have great difficulty in the future. Losing the rebounding war is not an accident when you go to a zone....His teams have had great success playing defense (mostly man to man) and rebounding.

If you watched the game tonight the Shocks failed the eye test for about 36 minutes. But they looked beautiful the last 4.

                That is VERY impressive.

                • I have to say that the fact that Bradley came from 16 down in the second half to beat UNI using a zone defense should have taken his heart out of it and let the decision be made in his brain. Turgeon had similar stubborn issues with the zone I think... at least 3G is a little less stubborn.

Wow, yet he still managed to play 30 minutes, score 17 points and grab 9 rebounds.

I hope Stutz is okay. It would be nice if we could get a big lead on SIU Saturday, so Stutz could get some needed rest.

                        • I thought Garrett really started grimacing after falling hard on his left wrist. To me it looks like he was really favoring it from that point on. Just praying for no fractures!
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

The thing is we actually play a pretty high quality zone defense. Yes, it's generally more difficult to rebound out of a zone but we were losing the rebounding battle anyway (as we did against Indiana State playing mostly man also).

                            • I don't have any problem with going to a zone but basing your strategy on what Bradley does this year is like planning your vacation based on the Titanic voyage.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

You talk about the Bradley game but UNI is a good 3 pt. shooting team over the entire season. I don't remember what they shoot but it is in the high 30's. Against Bradley, they started missing and after a while, choking. Just because they shoot very poorly one game doesn't mean they will always shoot poorly. The zone was worth a try and if timed right, a great move, but chances are (looking at their 3pt. shooting stats over the season), they will not miss the whole game. An example for us is Kyles was shooting great from 3 for 2-3 games but tonight, he hit bupkus.
