Wonder if that has anything to do with Shaq "black and yella" tweet.

Will be interesting to see what the story is about because most of the requests for exit interviews have been denied. If you go to https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view-request-log/ and do a search on Exit you'll get the requests. For example, Bret Buganski of KSN was denied last month for "All student-athlete exit interviews during the 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 academic years." Maybe they were denied while the investigation was ongoing but now they're available - don't know.

There are exit interviews available for 16-17, 17-18, and 18-19 at https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/382/ and https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/318/. They're pdf's and you can open then and then do a search on the word basketball. The only one I saw with a response from a men's basketball player was in the 17-18 pdf and it started on page 97. Questions about the head coach start on page 101 and lots of Poor and Very Poor responses from the person. They even have these questions and here were the responses:

Q23 Were you subject to coaching techniques that involved.
        Inappropriate physical contact. No
        Inappropriate verbal communication. Yes

Found it interesting that whoever it was said that if they were being recruited again, they WOULD attend WSU again but they WOULD NOT encourage others to attend

Bobb, they are from Oregon. Pretty good odds that they would both be willing.

Race was black. Scholarship status was academic scholarship. Kinda narrows down who it was.

Found a tweet related to it and it doesn't look like much based on the preview video- https://twitter.com/Bret_Buganski/st...65492616331269

He says in the video he has 81 grades and I imagine it's the ones from https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/382/ because the 16-17 had 34 responses, 17-18 had 23 responses, and 18-19 had 29 responses, which comes out to 86 total.

He also has this pinned tweet - https://twitter.com/Bret_Buganski/st...12674052866055

I wonder if he realizes people can actually look up what he was told at https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/922/

                  • Reading some of these reviews really gives a glimpse into this generation. One track athlete reported that the track locker room is awful, but the head coach drives A BRAND NEW CAR! Guess he or she thinks the coach should be donating his entire salary to locker room renovations. Or maybe the coach could keep his salary, but he should drive an old beater to work, so the feelings of the athletes won’t be hurt by the fact that somebody has a nicer car. Entitled little snot.

                      It's the "New Normal."

To be fair, the track locker rooms were pretty bad before the new building was built.

I’m not really a fan of Rainbolt, so some of the comments made me chuckle...but there were a few unfair things said in both this survey and others. First, Bolt has a new vehicle because all of the head coaches (as well as a few of the assistants in bigger sports) have that. It’s called the Wheels Club. It’s a perk of being a coach.

I also noticed that a few coaches weren’t graded very high on “Winning isn’t the only thing.” Ummm...that’s their job. In a perfect world, yes, you’d hope that coaches can have enough perspective to see the bigger picture. However...IT’S DIVISION ONE ATHLETICS! IT AIN’T INTRAMURALS! When generally good people like Scott Thompson, Jane Albright, and Todd Butler don’t win enough, they deserve to be dismissed. I won’t judge people like Gregg and Lambo too much for being hyper-competitive.

The other thing I’m seeing is that even though all are encouraged to fill out a survey after they leave WSU, most of the exit interviews are filled out, particularly with extra comments, by those who have an axe to grind or left under contentious circumstances. It’s no different than Yelp reviews. You’re more likely to leave a review if you are mad.

So...while what these kids are saying deserves attention, you do have to take some of it with a grain of salt.

Everything you said here was spot on. But as to your being fair comment, the locker rooms were very bad. However, the locker rooms had nothing to do with Rainbolt driving a new vehicle.

The story by KSN should have mentioned the other side that athletes who are more unhappy are more likely to fill out these surveys. How many of us are asked to fill out surveys by businesses and we just decide it isn't worth our time to do it. I do that all the time unless I have a "beef" with the service, etc. Even our local media don't try to give a balanced viewpoint of their stories. They are too interested in "clicks" and "viewers" in this social media age. I tend to trust most media less and less.

                            • The KSN story reminded me of the original clickbait stories, aka tv news sweeps weeks, where the clicker was your remote control and the goal was to get you to watch their news that night for ratings and thus they could charge advertisers more in the future. They always happened during May and November and they must still be a thing. The reporter from KSN, Buganski, did his open records report a month ago, but decided to wait until now to do a story. I imagine KSN is more interested in how the story did in the ratings vs any impact or information it supplied about Marshall.

Amazing how a reporter can stretch a story based on just the responses of one player from the men's basketball team from three year's of surveys. I imagine if Shaq and the other seniors and transfers from the 17-18 year had filled out the survey as well, a reporter would have enough for an hour long expose. It'll be interesting to see if they ever release the 14-15, 15-16, and 19-20 exit interviews or if any reporter puts in a request for them going all the way back to Marshall's first year.

One of the reports who put in the request back in July for 18-19 interviews - https://openrecords.wichita.edu/view...log/entry/318/ - actually put together a list of colleges he contacted and the information. He includes KU and K-State on the page and their surveys are pretty bare with regards to questions compared to WSU's. Here's a link to the list - https://theintercollegiate.com/libra...it-interviews/ - unfortunately the guy doesn't know how to spell Wichita so you may miss WSU in the list the first time you look at it :)
