NCAA is in a tough spot now. Public pressure is mounting to postpone/cancel the tournament. I’m selfish and hope they don’t...will understand if they do cancel though.

But to answer your question, 4,751 so far, And for those the problem is not a 3-6% mortality rate it is 100%. It sucks, but when you can prevent you do what you can.

We don't know the mortality rate yet. The gross mortality rate has been 3.4% (deaths/people tested positive) but that should go down quite a bit. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, estimated to Congress that the mortality rate for COVID-19 is ten times as high as the flu or 1%. That is a catastrophic number for a highly infectious disease.

I mentioned this in another thread, but for anyone solely relying on their flavor-of-choice cable news outlet to know what to think about the COVID-19 virus, I highly recommend reading or listening to what actual experts in infectious disease have to say about it.

In short, the bulk of the media may be overblowing it a little bit, but only a little bit. I went into the above podcast looking to feel good about this situation, and what I got instead was an eye opener. This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Quizzing people on here about "how many people have died so far?" is a false goalpost. Just 3 weeks ago, people in Norther Italy had the same blase attitude, and look at them now. Just a few weeks ago, we were wondering when the first case was going to show up in the U.S., and look at us now. This is just the beginning.

Also, a nugget of info from the above podcast: the idea that this is just a disease that is deadly to "old people" is a myth. Some of the worst cases have been people in their 40's. It's potentially deadly to anyone with additional health concerns, and the countries that this has been prevalent in so far do not have the same obesity rate as the U.S.

Regardless, just because you may be healthy and the disease may just present an uncomfortable few days for you, doesn't mean you aren't spreading the disease to others who this may kill. Start considering others' health as well as your own.
