I agree. That was some ugly basketball. Both teams failed the eye test.

Yeah was the ksu game put on by a promoter? To me it sounds WAY more profitable than the WSU game because they dont (as far as I know) have a guarantee of 125k to each team like they did for wsu. Plus they didnt have to discount any tickets and sold 15k. But Im sure KSU had to get paid something or they would have just played at home? I dont know.
It does make me a little jealous that the arena and crowd looked really good on national tv and WSU was no where to be seen. I can only imagine what the tickets would go for if we played KU or KSU...

Their total take from tickets at full price was 38% less than the promoter for our game was charging if he had sold out the arena at full price. So our promoter left a lot of room for discounting. Plus their promoter (or someone) spent a lot more money on promotion than our promoter did (other than the $30,000 that WSU budgeted, I am not sure our promoter spent anything on promotion besides couponing).

So I am not sure money wise if KSU or the KSU promoter did come out ahead of WSU or the WSU promoter even with a full (or almost completely full) house.

I will say it does look a lot better full on TV then it does with 3,000 plus empty seats but since our game wasn't on TV I guess that didn't matter as much to us either.

I was disappointed that I never heard the espn announcers say one word about WSU. That is the only reason I watched the game, I figured with the game being in Wichita they would say something about WSU at some point in the game. If they mentioned the Shockers, I didn't hear it.

            Why would they mention WSU?

There would be no reason to mention them, unless they would have talked about the game they played in the same venue last week and could not sell it out.

The Shockers had nothing to do with the game last night, it was all Big 12 and Big East.

WuDrWu, I sincerely believe the last ten years have addressed the age issue nicely. I came to WSU in 1997 and it was very apparent then. There were more 30 year olds in my car to Tulsa than the number of Tulsa fans that I saw between the age of 25 and 40.

I didn't watch too much of the game last night, it was too boring for me. But I would think just the fact that the game was being played in Wichita that some time during the game they would mention the Shockers winning the NIT and beating UNLV this year. Or something about Wichita fans supporting WSU at Koch arena as well as the big crowd at the Wichita Wildcat thing.

Fran Frachilla did the CofC game last year and during that game several times mentioned the great atmosphere at Koch, saying that it was even better than KU. I would think he would have said something about that being back in Wichita.

What a shame that Tulsa's fan interest has deteroriated to this. A good hated, but respected foe has all the necessary ingredients for a great rivalry. And though it helps, it is obviously not always necessary to be in the same conference. Stanford/ND, ND/Navy, Army/Navy, plus numerous state schools are just a few that come to mind.

Perhaps sometime again in the next 50 years or so we will end up in the same conference once again and will renew the rivalry.

Lots of Tulsa program-bashing in this thread, but why the hell would anyone in this town support Wojcik after producing 0 NCAA tournament appearances in 7 years. The style doesn't help. His personality certainly doesn't help. But the results are what matter and 20-win seasons built on playing creampuffs has worn thin.

We do have 2 more games to help this along.

I watched the espn replays of last years NIT games several times. The espn announcers, at least one of which as the same as last night, mentioned KsU and Ku a few times during our NIT games. They said positive things about what great programs they have and what great fan support they have. There was absolutely no reason for them to mention Ksu and Ku during our games last year except for the fact that we all happen to be from the same state.

I assumed that those same announcers would give us the same respect and mention the good job that Marshall is doing at WSU when they are doing a game in WICHITA.

I haven't watched a Kstate basketball game in years (probably since the last time they played WSU). The ONLY reason I watched last night was to hear what the national tv announcers might say about our program since they happened to be in WICHITA. Kstate basketball was very painful to watch last night, I am really surprised their fans can sit through those games. I think that even I can shoot the ball better than anyone on their team.

At any rate I was very disappointed that I wasted my time, if the announcers did mention WSU at all, I missed it.

Not sure I get the style thing although I will admit my samply size for evaluationg this is extremely small. The game last year at Intrust Bank Arena was one of most well-played (by both teams) and entertaining games in terms of style that I have ever witnessed. This year's game in Tulsa was not bad either. If anyone did anything to gunk it up sytle-wise it was the Shocks when they clamped on the press in the 2nd half. Still it was pretty well played and entertaining game. Maybe both of those were aberrations.

I think Tulsa plays a slow down style of offense. Had they not hit 60% of their threes in the first half, WSU would have run away with it very early. Islet is a poor man's GS, and despite some good athletes inside and on the perimeter at TU, they play an Indiana State/UNI style of keep away at the three point line. I'm sure a Huricane will correct me if I'm wrong.

The team has only once in the past 7 years finished in the top half of division 1 in Pomeroy's adjusted pace. They've never finished in the top 200 in steals and never finished in the top 100 in turnovers. They've also never finished in the top 100 in 2-pt shooting% or 3-point shooting%. It's a team built entirely on length with zero quickness, very few shooters, and even fewer that can handle the ball. They get killed defensively by any team with a half-decent dribble drive offense and they're clueless against a press or a zone. The only thing they consistently do well is rebound, so it's an exciting style if your favorite play is a well-executed rebound.
