  • As I grow older I must admit that I am more easily irritated about any part of the evening that just doesn't meet my expectations for quality. The half time show attempt was atrocious. I'm sorry ladies. I'm sure you are very nice, and it's not your fault for scheduling the half time gig, but that "sing-along" sucked in a huge way. Just turn off the lights for 15 minutes and let us get some sleep instead. At least we saved money, I guess. Dang! Please bring back quick change or something.

I expect Sunday will be different, but to this point, anything that is not directly related to the game on the court has been a disappointment.

    • Actually I think I would rather they just move ALL of the in game promotions to half-time. Many times those in-game things just take the wind out of the crowd. We get all pumped up after a big play, the other team calls time out and then we all get calmed down by watching some one try to shoot FTs from a chair etc.

Moving them all to half time will also save the Athletic dept. time and money on having to come up with a half time show.

Let the band play, the cheerleaders cheer and the crowd respond during TOs. No more crowd killing promotions during the game...Please!

Completely agree. Not a bad idea at all.

            • Unfortunately, you may not be able to charge as much to run all the promotions at halftime since you lose half your audience as opposed to having a captive audience during the game. If the promotional dollars they are generating from these in-game promos are important for us to survive and thrive then I guess I can live with them. Of course, I remember TV commercials in the pre-channel surfing era. You can always play a game on your smart phone or find other ways to entertain yourself (assuming they are publicly acceptable).

Another option would be to eliminate the in-game promotions and raise ticket prices. Not sure how much would be needed to offset the revenues from in-game promotions. If you want to add half time acts like Quick Change, Red Panda, etc. a ticket increase for that may also be in order.

As long as they are filling or close to filling the house there is not a lot of incentive to spend money on half-time entertainment.

              • I'm not sure when I last paid attention to any of the in-game promos. They're pretty much so boring that I pull out my phone and check FB, Twitter and SN during those breaks.

Sorry, will never happen. Those sponsors want as many butts in the seats as possible for the promotions they're spending money on. Do it at half time and they'll dry up just like the money they're paying to WSU.

Edit: OK. I didn't the next page of replys. Sorry for the duplication. :stupid:

The advertisers might feel that way, but I disagree. I don't pay any attention to those promotions right now. The only one I can even remember is when a guy (or gal) sits on a chair and tries to make a free throw. I just don't pay any attention to them. I am into the game not the promotions.

If they did them at half time, the promotions are the entertainment and maybe more of us who are just killing time during the half would actually watch them a little bit.

And maybe they could add another one or two if they need too to make up for lost revenue. If they are at half time I wouldn't care, right now they just suck the life out of the arena.

The best one was the Texas Tech game where obviously the place was packed and loud. The guy made all three shots and after making the halfcourt shot, proposed to his girlfriend. That might have been the highlight of that night (besides the win of course!)

                        • Many have noted that Carl had a terrific game. I'd like to give him some kudos on his post game interview with MK. His answers were clear and well thought out. No hemming and hawing. Came across very well on the radio. A good night all round for Carl.

Excellent point. I was discussing this with co-workers today as well. Not only was Carl polite, he was engaging, friendly and showed a fantastic sense of humor. It's not a knock on anyone else, it's just not typical to see young people (and Carl if you're reading, the entire team is young to most of us) that have developed the skill of public speaking. Especially not with the deftness that Carl displayed last night. Well done young man.
