Erik is a streaky shooter which is why defenses will always guard him close not matter what his overall % is. Etienne looks to be our sniper this year though.

We have 4 players shooting 40% or better from 3
Etienne - 46% on 52 attempts
Burton - 50% on 14 attempts
Wade - 42% on 24 Attempts
Echenique - 50% on 4 attempts (kinda counts)

Then 2 at 32% that still get guarded
Stevenson - 32% on 51 attempts
Sherfield - 32% on 19 attempts

Then you have Dexter who we all know is capable sitting at 24% on 46 attempts

Last year we had 1 person with 40% 3pt percents (Dexter right at 40%)

My two cents. Good win, and good that the selection folks will probably not know OSU was missing their STUD. JB
did what I like to see him doing - playing good defense and facilitating. JE/AM both played well. I thought IC also
played well. DD's poor play has opened the door for TE and he has barged through it. Really good looking player
who plays both ends of the court. I'll repeat what I've said about DD. He needs to USE his gift of athleticism by
attacking the rim, drawing fouls and/or finding wide open team mates. We have other outside shooters. On the negative side,
other than DD's play, was 17 turnovers and 15 of the 18 assists going to just two players. Wade played a little better the
2nd half but still needs to prove he can bang effectively with bigger PF's on good teams. Same can be said for IC nd DG.
Want to see more harassing D from NF and better care of the ball.

I had a couple of moments watching Tyson that reminded me of watching Landry against Tulsa in 15-16. Landry had only four points and fouled out of that game (not great officiating), but he had three steals and did some things that made me think, "Wow, have we ever had a lead/off guard who was capable of doing that?" I'm specifically thinking of when Landry made a back door cut and got fouled on what would have been an easy two-hand jam.

I had a couple of those moments watching Tyson yesterday. It's different than what I experienced watching Landry his freshman year, but Tyson does things athletically that great WSU guards of the past could not do. The baseline drive at around the 5:30 mark in the first half, even though he missed, is a good case in point. His quickness, lateral speed, and vertical leap are all very impressive. He doesn't have to overcome the same physical limitations that a lot of our guards have had in the past, and there's also a very natural feel to his game. While the two aren't mutually exclusive, these things tell me he will be a force to be reckoned with sooner rather than later. Oh yeah, and he also shoots 46.2% from three.

Wade was a quiet workhorse in yesterday's match. He was doing a lot of little things right. I think I saw a boneheaded foul in the first half, but other than that, I thought he played especially solid in a quiet way.

46% from 3 with 52 attempts 9 games in (roughly 25% of the schedule) can't be dismissed as a small sample size. Tyson continues to get better every game and is becoming a real weapon for the team.

I said before the game that we were crazy if we thought we'd just walk into GIA and walk out with a win, but that's pretty much what happened. I also said it was important that we got something out of it, no matter the outcome.

Tyson knowing he can play with anyone qualifies. Asbjorn gaining confidence qualifies. Handling a road environment qualifies. Knowing we belong qualifies.

This team checked a lot of boxes yesterday.

And I LOVE the way they play the game.

Etienne Named AAC Freshman of the Week; Burton Joins Honor Roll

Etienne – a 6-2 guard from Englewood, N.J. – scored a game-high 19 points on five three-pointers against the Cowboys (ranked No. 25 in last week's USA Today Coaches Poll). For the week he averaged 16.0 points and connected on 8-of-13 three-point tries.

Burton – a 6-4 sophomore guard from Charlotte, N.C. – landed on the honor roll for the second time this year after flirting with a triple-double against OSU. He handed out a career-high 11 assists with just one turnover while also banking seven points, eight rebounds and three steals. The Shockers were +31 with Burton on the floor. In two games last week he averaged 10.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.5 steals with a 4.67 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Etienne's 2.67 threes-per-game is tied for the league lead and is ahead of the school-record pace set by Landry Shamet (2.63) during the 2017-18 season.

Burton's 11 assists are the most in The American this year and the most by a Shocker since Shamet dished out 11 in a Jan. 11, 2018 win at ECU. Burton's total also tied for the second-most assists by a Shocker in a true road game (In addition to Shamet, Bill Lang had 11 at Oregon State on Dec. 1, 1972 and Bob Trogele dished 13 at DePaul on Dec. 10, 1977).
