In reference to the question above about an estimate effect of 3-point shooting percentage due to line being farther out next season....

There was an NCAA study in late May where 100 Division I players participated in the study. The findings were interesting as most players stayed within .02% of their previous year avg. There were two players in the study however that stood at the most whom deviated from their previous years 3-point shooting avg.

Dexter Dennis went from 40% shooting last season to 68% shooting in the study...and one Austin Reeves went from 43% shooting in his previous season to 18% in the study. Weird.
      FINAL FOURS:
      1965, 2013

      NCAA Tournament:
      1964, 1965, 1976, 1981, 1985, 1987, 1988, 2006, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021

      NIT Champs - 1 (2011)

AP Poll History of Wichita St:

Nice to have the last three games on one day to determine the "challenge." Wouldn't be surprised if we played one conference game before Ole Miss.

"College Basketball: SEC vs. AAC boasts four quality matchups In AAC, SEC" - College Hoops Watch

            by Ken Cross
            July 9, 2019, 11:32 pm

"As challenges between conferences become more and more intriguing with the excitement of the pre-conference tournaments in November and December, the SEC and AAC open their own scheduling alliance with four interesting matchups set for early December and January. The following are the games and the days of play:...

Ole Miss at Wichita State – Rebels coach Kermit Davis did a stellar job in landing the Rebels into the NCAA Tournament in the first year of his tenure in The Grove. The Rebels lost Terence Davis to graduation, but return six key players, led by senior Breein Tyree, who will help them once again with March reservations. The Shockers bottomed out early in the AAC schedule as coach Gregg Marshall had 11 new faces a year ago. They went 14-4 over their last 18 games and even made it to the Final Four in the NIT. This will be a deep team with Jaime Echenique as a top center in the nation...."

Will Echenique be the top center on campus?
The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?

I wouldn't be surprised if we have 2 1/2-3 top centers. I can easily see AM and JE being studs and PBC holding his own against most of the bigs in the AAC.

I hope IPBC gets to spend some quality time with Shaq and JT while they're in town. He could learn a lot from their trials and tribulations as shockers.

              Ranking WVU basketball's 2019-20 non-conference opponents (#6-#1) - WV Sports

              by Patrick Kotnik

              https://westvirginia.rivals.com/news...opponents-6-1-

"West Virginia's non-conference basketball schedule for the 2019-20 season was released in late April and it contains first-time matchups, familiar opponents and some teams the Mountaineers have never played. Today, WVSports.com completes its breakdown and rankings of these opponents with No.'s 6-1....

              4. South Carolina/Wichita State - Wednesday, Nov. 27 in Riviera Maya, Mexico (Cancun Challenge)

              South Carolina: 2018-19 Record: 16-16

              All-Time Series: WVU leads 3-1, Last matchup: December 23, 1952 - WVU won 86-73

              Wichita State: 2018-19 Record: 22-15

All-Time Series: N/A, Last matchup: N/A (Will be first meeting)

Whether it’s South Carolina or Wichita State, West Virginia’s second game in the Cancun Challenge should be a fun one.

Since making the Final Four during the 2016-17 season, the Gamecocks have gone just 33-32 in the past two seasons combined. Injuries last season led to head coach Frank Martin, a former assistant for West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins at Cincinnati and Kansas State, using a variety of different starting lineups. Even with South Carolina being without senior Chris Silva this upcoming season, last season’s team leader in points, rebounds and blocks, the Gamecocks will bring back some key pieces such as rising sophomore A.J. Lawson (averaged 13.4 points per game last season) and assists leader Tre Campbell. Among one of the newcomers for the Gamecocks this season will be guard Trae Hannibal, a McDonald’s All-American finalist.

Wichita State, who missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2010-11 season, brings in a 2019 recruiting class that ranks 40th in the country and returns starters such as last year’s assists leader (126) Jamarius Burton and Jaime Echenique who led the team with 221 rebounds. However, the Shockers will be tasked with having to replace seniors Markis McDuffie and Samajae Haynes-Jones who were the team’s top two scorers last season and the only players on the team to average double-digit points per game.

Whoever the Mountaineers battle in this game, it’ll definitely be an intriguing one to watch....

              3. St. John's -...

              2. Pittsburgh...

              1. Ohio State..."

I like the teams .. having only 1 true road game in the non-con isn't great. We are going to need a few breaks to even have any Q1 games in the non-con. I don't see any of the Home teams as guaranteed Top 30. OSU isn't a lock for Top 75. None of the Cancun games are locks for Top 50.

                    • Here is a comparison of prior seasons Non-Conference (NC) opponents actual year-ending RPI/NET and how 2019 looks like, (based on prior year-ending), it might shake out. Oral Roberts (#303/#296), UT Martin (#295/#311), and Central Arkansas (#282/#297) are likely to be a big drag on our RPI/NET rankings this season.
Year NC RPI NC NET Record
                      2014 120 - na - 12-0

                      • "Northeastern State men's basketball will tip-off its 2019-20 season with an exhibition contest on Oct. 29 at Wichita State.

The meeting will be the first between the two programs and a reunion between NSU head coach Mark Downey and Shockers head coach Gregg Marshall. The pair worked together as assistants at Marshall University (1996-98).

"I'm grateful to Coach Marshall for scheduling us in the preseason, and the relationship we've had dating back to our time at Marshall," said Downey. "It will be great to have our team play in a big atmosphere to start the season and against a well-coached elite NCAA basketball program."

This will be the second consecutive season NSU will play a team out of the American Conference with the RiverHawks visiting Tulsa one year ago. A tip-off time between the RiverHawks and Shockers will be announced at a later date."

                      • Big 12 college basketball teams, ranked for the 2019-2020 season

                        By Mike Rutherford
                        Jul 24, 2019, 11:52am EDT

                        '8. OKLAHOMA SOONERS - 2018-19 Record: (20-14, 7-11), Big 12 Finish: T-7th
It’s tough to find a handle on what exactly to expect from this Oklahoma team in 2019-20. Brady Manek and Kristian Doolittle are both established players who averaged double figures last season, but neither has ever been the focal point of a Sooner offense. The play of talented freshman point guard De’Vion Harmon should go a long way towards determining just how competitive Lon Krueger’s team can be in the Big 12.

                        7. WEST VIRGINIA MOUNTAINEERS - 2018-19 Record: (15-21, 4-14), Big 12 Finish: 10th
In 37 seasons as a head coach, Bob Huggins has never had back-to-back losing seasons. Don’t expect that fact to be altered by the results of season 38. West Virginia was one of college basketball’s biggest disappointments in 2018-19, struggling through injuries, in-season dismissals, and ultimately a last-place finish in the Big 12. Sagaba Konate declaring for the draft was an expected blow, but his shoes should be adequately filled by the addition of five-star freshman big man Oscar Tshiebwe. The frontcourt also brings back Derek Culver, who nearly averaged a double-double for the Mountaineers in his freshman season. The transfer of James “Beetle” Bolden to Albama should result in sophomore point guard Jordan McCabe stepping into a larger role. West Virginia will be much younger than Huggins would prefer in 2019-20, but the pieces are there to take a necessary step towards getting the program back to where the head coach expects it to be....

                        5. OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS - 2018-19 Record: (12-20, 5-13) Big 12 Finish: 9th
Much of the talk surrounding Oklahoma State basketball right now revolves around the potential commitment of Cade Cunningham, arguably the best player in the class of 2020. While Stillwater and the rest of the world waits to see what Cunningham does, there are still plenty of reasons for Cowboy fans to be enthusiastic about the present. Mike Boynton’s second season produced just 12 wins, but all five starters are back from that squad. A top 25 recruiting class and UMass grad transfer Jonathan Laurent also join the fold...."
