The Beggs are very classy representatives of WSU and I'll be sad to see them go.

The timing is definitely interesting though with all of the conference banter. This is the time to step up to the plate and move this school into the spot it deserves to be in..

AD Sexton is not going anywhere. He will retire as the AD.

Wow. This is shocking news. Totally out of left field. I expected Beggs to retire in a few years, but not right now.

I am one of those who hope the new guy will be very supported of the Athletic Dept and will at least be open to looking at bringing back football.

Agreed, both Beggs were great reps for WSU.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

You are certain a new president won't have his own ideas for that position. I guess it is a state school, so it's unlikely a new president will replace several of the directors?

Dr. Beggs picks a great time to step down. :good: :good:

Enrollment at Wichita State University for fall 2011 is 15,100 students, an increase of 294 students or 2 percent compared to fall 2010, according to the official enrollment report given to the Kansas Board of Regents following the 20th day of classes. It is the first time since 2002 that WSU's fall enrollment has surpassed 15,000 students.

I wonder if John Beehler (past Dean of Business) will be considered? If I remember correctly, prior to his leaving he made his desire to be Pres. known.

                  Dr Beggs

I think former Gov Mark Parkinson would be a very good replacement for Dr. Beggs. He graduated from WSU, strong athletic supporter, Attorney, and knows something about the politics in Topeka. He also is young enough to handle to rigors of being president of WSU.

I hope he has an interest in the position.

Parkinson is makign something like $1 million per year as the head of the assistend living association in DC.

But I agree, he could be a good president.

I also agree with a poster above, that the recruitment efforts at WSU for prospective students is top-notch.

I said I had mixed feelings, but that sounds more negative than I meant.

He and Shirely were certainly net positives for WSU.

He recently made is second move in the past four years since leaving WSU, so I'm not sure how willing he'd be to jump ship again. The good news is that he's just down the road in Dallas.

I like Don Beggs, John Beehler and many others who are/were at WSU. A former administrator who was interim provost and received "rave reviews" for honesty, efficiency, high ethics, etc. was John Hutchinson (who was at NIAR for years.) An important issue for all administrators is their judgement in picking subordinates and their vision for the university. Ethics, of course, should be very important.

Jim Schaus is not moving back to Wichita and frankly isn't, imho, suited for the position of President.

He is very good at what he does.
