Seniors could sign as soon as they enrolled in classes for their last year and lose no eligibility. Sign during any other academic year and the player is ineligible for future academic years.

That would avoid the vacated wins for situations like Fred is in, where the school gets punished for having done nothing wrong, and the player gets no penalty for doing something wrong.
So you allow this for seniors, but not other classes (one and done freshmen). Might be better to say any class, but your eligibility ends at the year you sign.

I thought this sentence pretty much stated what you're questioning: "Sign during any other academic year and the player is ineligible for future academic years."

So you're saying a player would not be allowed to go pro after his junior year?

We get that you think the player should be totally non-restricted, the school should not only provide for their education, but also finance the better part of a new car every year, and have no expectation of having the player's performance beyond what he does today. Free phones for everybody, along with free lunches and free....
It won't be a big deal for every kid, but it will help kids who are in need. Do you think Vanvleet or his stepfather would have taken few thousand bucks allegedly if he got a stipend?.

Will anyone of you be okay if your employer pays for your education instead of paying you a salary?. Several players generate millions to the universities but aren't good enough to go pro and the garbage degree major they got doesn't help them much either.
Also players should be able to go pro whenever they want from high school till junior year and the player should be able to decide whether he wants to go pro if he gets drafted or go back to college to increase his draft stock or get an education.
Garbage degrees? Whose fault is that?

And who do you propose pays for these few thousand a month stipends? Sounds like an arms race would ensue. And just to fill you in we don't have benjamins falling out of our pockets like other schools.

The amount of time it takes between gym, practices and game is the biggest issue. A normal student who is in scholarship job is only required to work 20hours per week. Now you answer whose fault is it?.

Okay. So what the coach gets a few hundred thousand less in salary every year.
Who is worth more?. The coach or the athletes?. Just compare the salary of coaches vs players in NFL and NBA, you know who is the most valuable.

I am sure coach Marshall salary would still be okay with a few hundred thousand less every year especially if every other school would have to do the same and all the salaries would come down.

Just compare the salaries of the coaches vs players in the NCAA and you will know who is most important. Heck, compare the coach to the president of the college, or to the governor of the state.

If they allow students to go pro right after high school, most of those athletes will be out anyway.

If you're insuating student athletes don't have enough time in the day to actually study and concentrate on academics then we're just going to completely disagree. I'll say this - living in Colorado Springs I spoke with an Academy basketball athlete the other day and they spoke about their daily schedule and manage just fine.

So how long do they spend every week between gym, practices, studying flims and the game and in some cases recovery time too especially in football?.

12-15 hour course load plus 10 hours of practice plus 10 hours of film/meeting/training room plus 15 hours of study. It’s a busy 50 hour/week schedule, but doable.

I think the bigger issue is travel.

You do realize every single scholarship athlete (male and female) would have to receive a few thousand a month.

Thats because NCAA has put a system in place which basically robs Peter to pay Paul.

And everyone knows that if you keep robbing Peter to pay Paul you end up with a sore Peter. And that is kind of where were at.

I bet Rick Pitino could expand on the topic of sore peters.
