You’ve inferred quite a lot from Docs message.
This is what I got out of it:
-He has never seen anything out of Fred which would suggest this type of action;
-Fred has to be given the benefit of the doubt here
-Even if true, the good far, far outweighs the bad
-People that are already deciding he won’t be welcomed back or have his number retired three hours after the story broke are idiots and need to be called out
Like you said it is a message board and like you said everyone has their own opinion. Docs opinion is exactly what mine is about the issue.

I don't have any problem whatsoever with his opinions about Fred. If that's what he believes, fine. My problem was with his comment that if you don't share his opinion you should "shut the F*** up and go to hell". This is a Shocker basketball message board, not Pravda

You don’t need to call Fred the devil (he’s not), and you don’t need to instantly start overreaching on judgements as facts are just starting to trickle in, but don’t you dare start making pathetic defenses like that. Also, yes, his legacy and absolutely up in the air. To say otherwise is to be a massive homer.Deuces Valley.

Why do you only find time to post about things like these and not, you know, the actual basketball games?
You're a weird one.

I think we're trying to say the same thing, Fever. I'm not condemning him, and I agree that anyone who already has, says he isn't welcome here anymore, etc can go to hell. I didn't see any of that, and have mostly just seen the "treating him as a god" contingent of posters. Though, I still disagree that the like ratio is a good measure of anything. "because it's a fan board" isn't a good reason to completely ignore reality, and just makes us look like.. well a bunch of posters for a team to the northeast.

It's not like he was accepting bribes to commit to a school. He didn't accept money to make himself or the team perform better. I highly doubt there is a single person in the WSU AD that knew anything about him taking the money. Yes it sucks that WSU is being included in these discussions. Yes I am sad that Fred's name is being drug through the mud because of this situation. Fred gave everything he had every single night he was on the floor. He was a great ambassador for the program. He will continue to be a great ambassador for the program regardless of this situation.
Seriously, what reasonable fan or sports analyst is taking the side of NCAA on this issue?

Or maybe it could be stating a fact. Facts do not necessarily equate to excuses."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Does it suck? Absolutely.
Do I wish that money wasn’t an issue, so they didn’t feel they had to take it? Of course.
Does Fred deserve to be remembered and thanked for 99.9% of his tenure at WSU? Without a doubt.
What effect will this have on WSU and Fred’s longtime legacy (Jersey retirement, etc.)? Who knows.
I believe opinions are hot and heavy because it feels to a lot of us like our own kid did this. Our own kid who we thought was invincible to such actions. Some people get sad, some people get angry, some people try to rationalize. None of which are right or wrong. It’s just how people deal with situations differently.
Fred transcended basketball in Wichita, he represented the best of us. He made us proud and showed everyone how to do things the right way. That’s why learning this, whatever your opinions on the rules and the NCAA, is so hard to take. We all make mistakes, and we all have to live with the consequences our actions, just as Fred will have to live with his.
Hopefully, for everyone’s sake, that this will be a small setback on an otherwise great run this university has been on; a run Fred was a major part in. Time heals all and, at the end of all this, Fred will almost assuredly be remembered as one of the greatest Shockers to every put on a uniform.

True story
A few years ago, one of our assistant coaches was joking with a Louisville assistant (and friend) "why did you guys let KU take cliff Alexander from you?" The Louisville asst. said point blank, "he told us KU was paying $150,000. We couldn't match that." There are much bigger fish to fry here. I hope they get fried.
It has been disappointing news, but I can't believe the coaches or university knew or could have controlled the situation. As many have said, let's let the facts come out.

At this point the NCAA is not involved although they obviously will be at some point. I guess the question in Fred's case was not that he accepted any impermissable benefits because the agent was most not likely a Wichita State booster nor associated in any way with Wichita State. Seems like the issue with Fred was that he and his stepdad accepting money from the agent most likely terminated Fred's amateur status under the NCAA rules. Although I am not totally sure this is how it will be viewed. Any wins earned after that point may have to be vacated. However, it sounds like the NCAA may have much more serious issues to deal with before they can get around the dealing with the Fred issue.Last edited by 1972Shocker; February 24, 2018, 01:50 AM.

It's time to get it on! Let's get a decisive win here, and play like we know our Shocks can! I want to see slumps end and ferocious defense.

Jamar Howard 4 President, have you ever intentionally went 5mph over the posted speed limit? You know, driven down Kellogg at 65mph? Or maybe went 45mph in a 40mph zone? Even once in your life? Dead serious question.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

I also don't think this is a good comparison. The worst that can happen by you or I speeding is that we get pulled over and get a ticket. It only would affect one person, and not screw over a bunch of other people / another organization as well.
