Man this forum really does prefer to spend its time criticizing other posters, and going on and on about how stupid peoples ideas are. Meanwhile, I haven't had any luck with SN being able to help explain Gregg Marshall's offense. That's pretty lame in my opinion. Go ahead bicker over rankings and whether or not coach sounded a certain way on his show. Or let's just go back to bashing KU or pretending every new poster is a closet KU troll. That should help us feel better about playing poor defense and not knowing what is happening on offense.
I've had to block many long time posters because they prefer to insult people and bicker, rather than discuss the Shocks. That's pretty telling.
Anywho.

I'll repeat myself. If your going to play a defensive specialist (ZB) along with another defender
and rebound guy (RK) at the same time something will eventually give on the offenseive side of
the court. Teams have now learned that ZB and RK can't hurt them from the perimeter and are
sagging back deeper to either help out in the paint or double team. I think we are seeing a lot
of both. One guy helps out in the paint and another guy is used to double team - usually LS
which is the engine we need to run the offense. Have to pick your poison. Strong defense with
an offense opponents are figuring out how to slow down OR a strong offense but weaker
defense. What we need is for MM to start playing better offensively and for AR to play more at
the small forward. Having CF on one wing and AR on the other stretches/balances the court
more. Add MM playing at the four with them and you have your best offensive configuration
without giving up too much defense.

3-6 seeded WSU plays 11-14 seeded MVC team in 1st round.
I’m calling it right now. It’s UNI, who went 6-12 in the MVC and made a run straight from Thursday all the way to the Dance.
WSU wins by 18 after a horrible 1st half but UNI fouls everybody out midway through the 2nd half since there are real officials who don’t fall for flopping in the NCAA tourney.
oh and the MVC championship at arch madness will be UNI-Drake. Tens of fans will witness it live.

We act like Zach is a godsend on defense, but let's not forget that McDuffie won MVC Defensive POY as a freshman."Say it slowly and savor it..."
Nothing worse than sCUm/sKUm

Duff is a very good all around player but he did not win defensive player of the year his freshman year or any other year foe that matter. He was Freshman of the Year but that doesn't make him the best defender in the conference.

RussDaBus is correct, sorry about that. Not sure why I thought he won that, thanks for correcting.

Brown has been struggling a little at times with his knee, although I haven't heard that it's still a problem. And I think he was probably trying to do too much in front of the home folks in Houston. But I agree will all who say that having two guys starting who aren't in for offense can create some problems; and it's probably a little worse when one of the two, who isn't a great shooter from beyond the arc -- one might even say the weak link among the starters -- eagerly takes the threes that opponents are willing to let him launch. That's been happening too much lately.

So do any of you know what offense Gregg Marshall is running? I actually would like to know. Because I didn't feel all that comfortable saying RB or ZB should play without knowing what we are running.

There are certainly drawn up plays, but coaching offense is more about how players are coached to breakdown and analyze defenses, and then what the players are to look for when making a drive/cut/pass.
