  • WSU Versus Henderson State (Exh.) Predictions and Pregame Discussions

Here's the deal. As the autumn leaves are falling, it is time to play the Reddies of HSU this coming Saturday at 5-p.m. at Koch Arena. HSU is a Division 2 team from Arkadelphia, Arkansas that plays in the Great American Conference. They are coached by Jimmy Elgas and in 2016-17 they had a record of 16-13. When you get home from this game you can even fall-back a hour and sleep well as we dream of a Shocker Season that will fulfill the superb expectations of another potential 30 plus win Season to raise the roof sky-high.Can you dig that? Groovy!!!!!!!

Look for wholesale substitutions by the Shockers in search of effective ways to utilize the quality depth that they possess. Shaq will lead our bigs as Conner Frankamp will lead our guards. Few teams will have so many quality and experienced players as our beloved Shocks to draw from. The Shocker D-Fence, led by Zach Brown, will be eager to disorient our foes Offensive schemes that would resemble a famished buzzard moving in for some supper. I found no evidence the Shocks have played the Reddies before but we know our squad will be beyond eager to get this party started. SN has been buzzing in anticipation and soon we will get to relish maybe the most thrilling Shocker Season of all time, and that will be grand.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't players play in these exhibitions and still get a redshirt?

I'd expect to see a lot of minutes for Midtgaard and RBrown so Marshall can get more info about how they do in game settings.

I think it's obvious that Haynes-Jones will start at PG. The interesting thing will be whether Reaves or Frankamp backs him up. I lean toward Reaves.

The next thing to watch is who spells ZBrown when he needs a break.

My prediction for post players: Shaq will be used sparingly. That will give Willis enough minutes to put up a double-double - and give Marshall a chance to see how he defends against players not wearing Shocker uniforms.

We might learn something from how Keyser is used and how he performs in those roles.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

You are indeed correct Argh. Even so, if R. Brown does take the shirt once we play for real, MM could spell RB often not to mention CJ could too depending on his progress. Willis and Kelly will both be Seniors and improved so they can indeed handle many minutes at the 4. Since Willis had Carl Hall type scoring numbers as a Junior, can he also matched the improved numbers Hall achieved his Senior Season? Hope so and I hear Willis worked very, very hard this summer on this game. This Season I'm hoping Willis passes quickly back out of the double teams and keeps his turnovers and fouling to a mild roar. We always know that Kelly will give it 1000% every time he hits the hardwood.

I"m also hoping to see A. Reaves get his groove on and feel CF will tear it up this Season. Jones is quick, a smooth ball handler, and still another solid shooter from the outside. This Season will provide us up to 13 deep solid rotation players if needed in many games. Few teams out there have that kind of quality depth.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

While I wasn't all that thrilled about the addition of the Jets exhibition game, it does offer Gregg more evaluation time for Midtgaard and Rod Brown without, as you point out, sacrificing a red shirt. Haven't heard much about Mr. Brown so I'm curious to hear how he plays.

I'm going to predict that we have 10 players score between 8 and 15 points. The final score will not be close. That is all.

Will SHJ start? I think he will. Kelly or Willis is actually an interesting battle for the starting 4. I think Kelly, but who knows!

Has this ever happened before in WSU history that two local guards started a game for WSU?

SHJ - "I just got to stay humble and do what I gotta do".

Within 3 months of getting on campus from a JuCo, he's on a top-10 team and filling in for a pre-season AA at PG. That could be humbling.

Glad he played for a national champion JuCo. That experience will help with the pressure he might be feeling.

By the time the Shox hit Maui, Samajae should be comfortably settled into his role on the team. I get the feeling that he's going to be the second option at both guard spots for some time. Hope he's a fast learner.
