So you'd rather go 0-1 in the NCAA tournament instead of 5-0 in the NIT?

I'm guessing recruits would remember the NIT championship more than the 1 and done.

        Yes.

And I disagree. I can tell you Dayton won the NIT last year and that's only because I've heard that multiple times in the past few weeks. I can't tell you who won the year before that or any other year. You name off a team for me and I'm pretty sure I can tell you if they've been in the NCAA recently.

NCAA Tourney appearances hands down. Millions of people fan and non-fan alike participate in office brackets. Millions of people will read the name Wichita State. This is free advertising. NCAA Tourney banners hanging in the arena look more impressive than NIT ones.

I think this years NIT run is fantastic. I am really enjoying it. I would rate what this year's team has accomplished as the 9th best team ever in Shocker history.

Only behind the 8 Shocker teams that have made the big dance. And if I weren't going to be in Hawaii next week watching the baseball Shox I would go to NYC in a New York minute. It is a great post season run for the Shockers. It is fun and is great for WSU.

Having said all of that, I still think going to the ncaa and even losing in the first round is better than a good NIT run. The ncaa tourney is just too big of an event with so much national publicity.

Now maybe if we end up winning both games in NYC, I might change my mind and say it is even better than a one and done in the ncaa. Right now I am saying that this is a great post season run and should be enjoyed by everyone but it isn't quite as good a ncaa tourney appearance. :wsu_posters:

But it is the next best thing. And I am very happy our team took advantage of this opportunity.

I am more concerned with recruiting then brackets, and yes, the NCAA is clearly the preferred tourney. But stringing together a half-dozen wins against quality opponents and a trip to MSG is as good as a one and done. The PLAYERS/RECRUITS will watch the NIT as well as the NCAA. Seeing a team that plays 10 deep broadcasts opportunity for PT as well as TV.

MSG + CKA is pretty damn good consolation prize.

I'm loving this NIT run!! But this debate is missing a very big point.

If we were in the NCAA it means we would have also:

                  1) won our first MVC tourney championship,

                  2) chest bumped Weems out of the MVC tournament,

                  3) cut down some nets on national TV,

                  4) hung a very coveted banner in our beloved gym,

                  5) had an MVP of the tournament getting some love.

I love, love, love what we are doing now -- but I'd trade it in for the above items and a shot at the HEAVY WEIGHT title no matter how bad the odds, in 2 seconds flat.

Isn't it fair to ask if it is better to be in WSU's position in the NIT vs. Texas San Antonio getting blown out in the first round as a 16 seed.

                    That's a low bar, I realize.

I was basically using the Indy State 14 seed getting blown out in the first round vs. our NIT run to NY.

It is just a slightly higher bar than Texas-SA and I like our situation better than Indy State's.

                        Winning.

Winning is best overall for the program.

:good: Well said. Exposure is exposure, and in this case it's very positive. I'll take what we can get given the circumstances.

Was debating this with someone after the game last night, curious what Shockerneters think.

I have been having the same discussion with friends and family. I know it's "basic" cable, but with the ability to watch more games, I think that needs to be considered. You are no longer required to watch the game in the local area. There are good things and bad things there. Local recruits wouldn't have to watch you on TV, they could watch some other game. On the other hand, recruits in other states have the ability to watch you. In the NIT, it's nationwide coverage on the "best" sports network. I vote, in this case, NIT is better because of the extended exposure.
