I don't want Marshall fired but I don't think we have to worry about that.
MARSHALL WILL LEAVE probably very soon because the Valley has become a one bid conference.
I bet he is trying his best right now to get into a multi-bid conference. That is what he thought he was getting by going to WSU.
Now that the Valley has clearly cemented itself as a one bid conference there is no reason for Marshall to hang around here any longer.
Then adopt the "Survivor" montra; out recruit, out prepare & out coach the other nine schools and cement that one bid like he did at Winthrop.
Why? Too little margin of error when you can finish 6th in the SEC and skate into the dance every year. A higher paying version of the Big South is not what he bargained for, I can guarantee you.
Oh, poor Gregg. I feel for him in your scenerio. Dog gone it, he can't be just decent and underperforming at WSU to get to the dance. He has to actually compete against other fine teams and coaches and meet reasonable expectations. Not like at Winthrop where he had to go up against the big dogs Coastal Carolina's, Liberty's & North Carolina...oh, that's North Carolina-Asheville.
Now back to your scenerio. Which hand-picked 6th place team will guarentee 3G a spot in the dance??? LSU, once a yearly dance team...no. How about Arkansas...I guess there is talk of a union there...no, not a guarentee 6th place finish. Gee, let's call on the spirit of Nostradamus. Maybe he can lead the way for 3G to walk on the SEC campus that will magically deliver his mediocre results and land him back in the dance...REALLY!
While I think he would take ANY BCS job that is available to him I would NOT limited it to the BCS. I think at this point he could leave for an A-10 or C-USA job. Although I think he might be a little pickier at which A-10 or C-USA job he would take.
Well I will get an "All-Hands-On-Deck" alert out to Wake Forest, Depaul, South Florida, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Iowa, just to name a few, that 3G will take your best offer to come to greener pasture.
Don't get me wrong. I do NOT want Marshall to leave. I am very disappointed in the way the season ended, but I am very scared of the very real probability that we will have a new coach next year. I don't even have the slightest idea of who it would be.
It is not something I want, I just think it is probably going to happen because Marshall is very ready to get out of this one bid conference.
Like I said somewhere tonight, Elgin will get a wakeup call this weekend. What he does about it is anyone's guess, but the MVC does have a strong nucleus of coaches right now, and if those schools will get back to scheduling quality competition, I think the MVC could get there. I agree that Marshall might not want to be part of that, but I am not convinced he would take any job that comes his way. It would have to be a quality program, so why not wait for the right job...
I have no idea what will happen and am not going to worry about him going anywhere until I have to.

I don't have the time or the will power to do it, but there are more sob stories than not about mid-major coaches flaming out at the big-time level. Greg McDermott comes to mind. There are certainly some who make it...Thad Matta from Butler to Xavier to "The" Ohio State. Do something on this level before moving on please.
Can't really blame everything on conference affiliation. Our lackluster play OOC along with some horrendous home scheduling is not the Valley's fault.
Ultimately, if we don't lay turds at home to SIU, UNI, and VCU, hang on to that win against UCONN, and don't flop in the freaking semifinals to freaking Indiana State, this conference all of a sudden isn't a problem because then we'd magically be dancing.
Please don't deflect the blame.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

We could install instant polling devices in CKA and have the entire crowd coach by committee.
Or we could have our SN brain trust have a Festivus-like feats of strength before each game to see who gets to make the calls, with the losers getting prime seating behind the home bench...
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss
Maybe one of us coaching experts here on SN will get the next call to coach? YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
Shut up about coach leaving already. If I was the coach of the Shockers and saw all of this B.S. on here, I'd be on the first plane outta this place... Good grief... He's OUR freaking coach, so until that changes, stop worrying about it; and stop acting like you KNOW what he would do or what he wouldn't do...
