When's marshall leaving?

I think the coach is committed to WSU and especially to the players that will be Seniors next year, i.e., Murry, Kyles, Stutz, Ragland, and Smith.
It is reasonable to think after a couple of years of making the NCAA's and doing okay in it that he might consider other offers as a result, but I do not think it will happen before that. And I think if and when he makes another move, he will want to be absolutely sure of it. Uprooting your family, home, and leaving associations and friends behind is not an easy thing to do.
I do have hopes that Carl Hall might be as good as Durley, or even better, next year, and I think Jake White is too good not to get court time next year as well. Hamilton is an unknown at this point, and right now, Williams and TRich are questions in my mind for next year. Wessel and Cotton are kind of in a 'wait and see' mode for me as well.
I am hoping the incoming players can infuse some enthusiastic toughness into the overall chemistry of the team.

My opinion is that TRich and Hamilton will not be here next year. I hope Carl Hall and White will be as good as we hope but is always easy to think the player you haven't seen is going to be the "savior" (see Orupke thread)......I also hope that our Seniors to be will mature and take a step forward.... lIt may actually be more fun next year doing better than predicted rather than falling short...I'm trying to be optomistic

I would be interested in seeing some demographic data (primarily age/years of being a Shocker fan) comparisons between those seriously calling for a change and those who are not. My sense is that those (myself included) who were in the house for the really good times of Smithson I and Fogler, then had to sit through the horrendousness (is that a word?) of Cohen, Thompson and, to a lesser degree, Smithson II, then were rewarded with at least some bright spots under Turgeon, are less inclined to bash Marshall now. We've seen that things can be much, much, much worse than 25 win seasons and the NIT. And we have the hope of those mystical days where McDonald's AAs strode the hardwood...
Or, maybe age/seniority has nothing to do with it, and it's all related to being left alone too much as a baby...Wear your seatbelt.

I fit into the old goat category, who still supports Coach Marshall."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

It's not like Marshall cannot improve. Schools like WSU don't get seasoned coaches who have all the experience in the world; they get up-and-comers who are a little green.
I'm sure Marshall learned more from this season than he bargained for, but the reason why successful people are successful is because they have failed so much. Marshall is not a quitter, and neither should we be.The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

I can't even believe we're having a discussion about coaching changes. Complaints, yes. Criticism, yes, but for crying out loud, COACHING CHANGE?
24-8 and 14-4 in conference games doesn't constitute a coaching change no matter how disappointed about not making the dance we are. Let's get a grip!
I expect changes to come, but not in the coaching staff folks--or at least not in the head coach. People don't realize sometimes how detrimental a change would be right now to the program. Coaching changes aren't usually smooth in all aspects, and I would bet that it would put us back a year or 2 if we did.
HCGM deserves the chance to fix the problems and challenges. He's more than earned that chance folks.
That doesn't mean people don't have a right to complain, be disappointed or criticize, but firing the head coach is just stupid at this point.

And our good karma, arising from our willingness to let other succeed, will help us in the future. ;-)
Re: 2010-2011 SIU Mens Basketball good moments....
1. I love the redesign on the arena.
2. The development of Seck has been outstanding.
3. Carlton Fay had some great moments during his senior year.
4. The win at Wichita State.
5. It is still nice to finish higher in conference play than Bradley and Illinois State.
:(Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Nobody has said that HCGM should be forced out as of right now. The oversensitivity of the new Team B is a bit much. And yes, Team B was tongue in cheek.
We should be good again in a weak league next year. However, even the most optimistic among us has to admit that there is SERIOUS work to be done if we are going to be competitive in 2012-13. There are many, many gaping holes, and we are either going to have to: (1) take it on the chin, get back to recruiting 4 year players, and likely endure a (hopefully brief) rebuilding spell; or (2) exacerbate our JUCO/crack addiction and see how it works out.
My main concern is that this season and next season are when we will be peaking for the near-term. And if peaking under HCGM means NIT home games, I am not okay with that. Hopefully our seniors can improve in the off-season and lead us to the promised land next year, putting all of this conjecture to rest. However, if they don't, I don't know that I'm okay with riding a rebuilding phase under a coach who couldn't get us to the NCAA's in 5 years with the best resources in the league.
I realize that barring a total disaster next season, HCGM will not be in any danger of being dismissed any time soon. However, I do think fans have the right to vocalize our expectations for the program. There is absolutely no reason we should not dominate this league like SIU and CU did for a half-dozen years. In fact, I expect it. Sorry if I am being too hard to please.
And yes, I remember all of KC Hunt's lethargic passes, Robert George jacking threes five seconds into each possession, Michael Wiggins starting with a broken arm, Patrice Scott somehow getting playing time despite a 6" vertical after injuries, Rick Conn, Kamau Alexander, Boo Craft, Dorian Estelle, Russ Peacock, Kevin Gwaltney, John Smith the woman beater, LJ Goolsby, Jamie Arnold arguing with Scott Thompson during timeouts, Rashon Micken and his side-saddled bricks, and many other gems.
