Go watch the replay on ESPN3, it'll help you sleep.

It looks to me like Joe gets the inside arm on the way up.

But, I agree with you, more Joe please.
The problem is that kinda stuff seemed to go "unnoticed" during the rest of the game. That's the main problem I have with it. The timing compounded it.

Also, I dunno why the VCU fans are calling the announcers "homers". They are in no way affiliated with WSU, the Valley, etc. I think they called it how they saw it. The fact that they disagree with their opinion of the foul call doesn't make them freaking homers.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

    • Can't find who was asking about the specific officials, but here's their BBState pages:

      http://www.bbstate.com/officials/59751 William Humes

      http://www.bbstate.com/officials/59878 Dwayne Gladden

      http://www.bbstate.com/officials/59749 Tim Nestor

All East Coast, middle of the road referees who call about 35-37 fouls a game and tend to favor the visiting team by anywhere from 1.5 fouls to 4 fouls.

Looking at their recent games, they are all mainly CAA refs...

      • Sorry, but the call on Ragland was definitely a foul. After watching the replay over and over, I have determined that Ragland had his hand on Rodriguez when he went up and extended the hand just enough to put Rodriguez off balance. However, before anybody jumps down my throat...

As an official, if you have been letting the teams battle and scrap all game long and let both teams get away with murder in the paint, you DO NOT call that foul with 0.8 seconds left in the game. The call was correct, but it was not consistent with what was being called throughout the game. I thought the officiating was horribly inconsistent. Both teams got away with murder in the paint, but any touch on the perimeter was a foul. That was definitely not the best crew we've seen all year, probably the worst crew since the UConn crew.

With all that being said, that call certainly didn't cost us the game. We played from behind all game long, got overpowered on the boards, looked like crap offensively, looked like crap defensively in the first half.. no doubt about it, we deserved to lose that game. I'm not ready to say that it is win it all at the Lou or NIT, but our margin for error just became very, very slim. I think we must run the table and make it all the way to the championship game in St. Louis to even have a chance at an at-large berth.

It's just amazing the turnaround in this team.. for the last few years, this team has done a great job defending their home court, but couldn't win on the road. This year, the team is unstoppable on the road, but couldn't defend their home court if their life depended on it. Makes no sense to me.

I agree the telecasters for this game were pretty fair and called it straight down the middle.

Earlier in the year when we had games on ESPN during the Pre-season NIT, the announcers were clearly pulling for Tennessee and UCLA. Also in our games against South Florida and Richmond, both regionally televised on the Big East and A-10 networks, the announcers were biased for those telecasts as well.

I guess a lot of Rams fans have just been conditioned to think that ESPN telecasters are always rooting against our team. It's certainly nothing personal.

It's inexcusable, and laughable, if you're a local KU or K State fan. I like Marshall as a coach, but that kind stuff requires a Bob Knight "life lesson" to his team, no two ways about it.. kids crave discipline anyway, I've heard. What's with the kid gloves on Murry? Was the two first-half fouls on Ragland a cherished oppurtunity to throw Murry back in at point guard again?

            • Being a K-State fan as well as a Shocker fan, I have to say sometimes I wish we had a coach like Frank Martin. I know most people don't like him, but I do. This is college basketball, not biddy basketball, and sometimes the Bobby Knight/Frank Martin approach is necessary. These kids can handle it, if they can't, they shouldn't be playing college ball. I've seen junior college coaches that are far worse than Bobby Knight and Frank Martin put together. It's time for this team to get a serious tongue lashing and remember how to win at home.

Please stop supporting the meth lab problem in our state. You've made some poorly thought out points in the past, but this one's a doozy.

It even tops your "I'm sorry but that was a foul on Ragland" post.

That isn't a foul called by 1 ref in 1000. It was an insane call. I watched the HD replay 20 times and it was even MORE insane every time I saw it.

I thought MAYBE it was a makeup call for previous foul, but on replay the VCU kid ran right through Ben and Joe. He was forced to call a foul. And that official, I promise you, let the bald headed guy that blew the game have it when he called the foul with .2 They made up the .8 (no way there was time left) and what was with the .4 afterwords? Is that a specific rule or did they just agree on it beforehand?

Sure there was contact. There is contact in every play in college basketball. The kid was bailed out, pure and simple. I don't have any idea how Gregg kept from being thrown out or even arrested.....

EXCEPT that he was able to understand that the better team won. The team that played harder (although I thought we played hard) was better prepared, better coached and frankly, had more talent.

This morning sucks more than last night....I thought a little sleep would help....I was wrong.

                • One more thing.....Please get us out of our league. The Valley BLOWS.

That was the most entertaining home game, by far, of the entire year and maybe for the last 2 or 3.

Very little grab and hold and tackle and pinch and poke and slow down and stall and grind and crap etc.

                  VCU is welcome back anytime.

Gregg's agent can also immediately get in line AT LEAST behind Shaka's when seeing what else is out there. Talk about unfinished business.

                  • Didn't expect the last foul to be called, since the game was called rough, big east, knockem down and spit on em rough. I hate that kind of officiating . HATE IT. Game was called pretty even, although the roughness allows the team that is more familiar with that type of officiating an advantage, I think. VCU is pretty darn good.

                      +1

Triple G sees the writing on the wall in this league. When he took the job here he reveled in the possibility of being in a conference where he didn't have to win the tourney every year to get in. Well guess what: the Valley is just a higher paying version of the Big South for him, another one bid league a thousand miles from his true home. That is why the agent talk has legs. Coaches want a legitimate run at the dance year in and year out, without having to go 27-3 in the regular season to do it.

                        Really? Seriously? Frank Martin?

If you had any insight into the Wichita State program, you would know that lack of tongue lashings aren't the problem.

                        • VCU attacked us. They attacked us on offense. They attacked us on defense. They attacked the boards. They came into our house and put the boot to our neck, and we couldn't do anything about it.

On offense we stand around the perimeter holding the damn ball waiting for someone to open up down low; pass, hold the ball, look inside, nope, pass, hold the ball, look inside, nope, dribble, pass, hold the ball, look inside, nope, dribble, hold the ball, look inside, pass, oh shat, five seconds on the shot clock, time to play frantic, dribble, four seconds, pass, dribble, three seconds, pass, dribble, two seconds, pass, dribble, one second, throw up a guarded three pointer, CLANG. Is it any wonder defenses are always in our grill. Hell a middle school team could keep up against that offense.

On defense, we're just to damn slow. (Move your feet). That's why JR got called for that foul in the final second. (Move your feet). HE GOT BEAT. (Move your feet). Simple as that. (Move your feet). Our guards are slow. (Move your feet). And we don't rotate for shat. (Move your feet).

And once again; I wish we had a point guard. And no, TM ain't it.

And last, but not least. After four seasons, we are still just an NIT caliber team. And that is on HCGM.

Thanks ShockerNet. It sure feels good to get that out of my system. :)

                          • We just need an extreme talent makeover to get out of this NIT-caliber rut. Or the coach needs to figure out a way to make them over-achieve, masking their individual weaknesses.

When was the last major upset pulled by this program?

What we want is a team that has somewhat of a chance to win the national championship. Only one team has ever won it without a McDonald's All-American. In my mind our team is one player away from being what we want. That one player is very difficult to obtain.
