The committee would rather give an at-large to a BCS team with a record barely above .500 and 30 or 40 something RPI than to give a non-BCS team a spot like us with a so-so resume'.

It's simple, we don't lose at home against Mo State and San Jose State and we are in. But those two bad losses eliminate 40 non-D1 wins and are horribly bad losses for a team with a SOS over 100.

KC- I would agree with you that if we win against MOST and SJSU at home we are in. That would eliminate our 2 worst losses, improve our rpi quite a bit (home losses hurt a lot more), and give us the Valley regular season title out right.

Even with those 2 loses I think we still have a chance, but I think there may have been too many conference upsets to find a slot for us. The other factor is Charlie Lowell's injury. We will know tomorrow.

They may have to let us in and send us to Norman, just to make sure the OU regional doesn't lose money. :D

Whenever it was, I miss those days.
Actually I look at it from the other direction. Which is the last time we had to look at the bubble watch and sweat it out?

2006 and before that it was 2001.

WSU has usually managed to be solidly in or win the auto bid so we didn't have to worry about it. This is probably just the third time since 1987 that we have had to worry about the bubble watch.

We made it in 2006 and just missed in 2001, so we are 50/50 in our bubble watch teams.

Actually I would add 1997 into the mix. We won the regular season title, finished 4th in the Valley tourney and had an iffy rpi. We had to sweat it out a lit bit and got sent to Tuscaloosa, AL for a regional.

But I would definitely say that only having to sweat it out 4 times since 1987 is pretty amazing (1997, 2001, 2006, 2010). And so far we have gotten in 2 out of the 3 times.

We also had a couple of near misses. In 1993 we went into the Valley tournament with an rpi in the 50s and things were looking pretty iffy. The 1993 team won the Valley tourney removing all doubt. The ncaa then proceeded to send us to the Georgia Tech regional to face the number 1 team in the country on their home field.

As we all know now that really iffy Shocker team ended up making it to Omaha and playing in the national championship game.

The other near miss was 1988. The Valley tourney had several rain delays and we couldn't complete the championship game(s) on time. The ncaa told the Valley to just pick a champion, because the league was only getting one bid.

WSU had won the regular season title, the first championship game was tied and CU would have to win that game and then win a second game to get the title, so the MVC awarded us the win.

That WSU team got sent to Okie St (the #1 team in the country at the time) proceeded to beat them twice on their home field (great games, great memories) to get to Omaha. Once in Omaha, that team was just one stike away from making it to the Championship game.

It would have been a real shame if neither one of those Shocker teams would have been allowed to dance.

Yeah that 1993 team had Varitek and Garciaparra on it and we spanked em.

Oh and Watcher: you need to be lettin' SB tell you how to say things.

Making comparisons between the 1988, 1993 and even 1997 teams to the 2010 team is laughable.

Our best quality wins are home victories over Florida Gulf Coast. That's only the tip of the iceburg.

Next year could be a repeat of 2011. Maybe it's time to bump the "Program has officially fallen" thread..

              ... No really, deuces.

                Fever,

I think next year will just be a peat of 2011. Did you mean repeat of 2010 or 2009? :D

I think NC and Kentucky don't make it because they didn't even make their conference tournament. I still trying to see who WSU jumps.

I am more optimistic than that about 2011. People who may not have been forecast as big contributors will unexpectedly emerge next year like a Lassley and Bascue did this year.

As Gene stated, we are one of fewer than 20 teams with over 40 wins. We also haven't lost many over the stretch of the past month to month and a half. The NCAA better take a GOOD, LONG, HARD look at our resume. If we don't get in, I certainly hope that certain teams mentioned in this thread, and I would definately throw in KU, don't make it in over us.

Usually by now WSU has announced a watch party for the selection show.Hasn't happened yet.I think Gene and Brent have a feeling they are out and won't even bother with the watch party this season.I hope I'm wrong.
