Well the consensus appears to be that we are squarely on the bubble but are a little short.

No doubt this team has some warts.

Perhaps our only hope is that, like hoops, they look at how you played late (Shockers making the MVC Championship game and going 18-5 over their last 23 games) and they take into account Charlie Lowell's effective return to the starting rotation.

If we are one of the last teams out it may boil down to how we lost to Illinois State in the Championship Game.

If we do receive a bid it may boil down to the committee wanting a little more Northern exposure in the tournament.

If we get left out in favor of teams that didn't make their own conference tournament it will be business as usual.

I think it is about 50/50. If they get in it is because they are rewarded for winning the MVC regular season. Of course if that happens they will be the poster child in college baseball community of NCAA committee charity. Better to get there by charity than stay at home. You never know what might happen once you are there.

          Illinois State a #3 seed.

A little unexpected. Is that a positive sign for the Shocks?

It would seem to be a positive.

Elon, a bubble team WSU is competing with for an at-large is also a #3.

It does show some respect for the Valley. Elon on the other hand could have taken a spot that we needed.

UNC and Cal take the last two spots. UNC didn't make their tourney and Cal finished terrible in the PAC 10.

It is a shame, because I think the regional and super regionals were made for this team.

Three wins can get you a regional and you just need to win 2 out of 3 games to win a super.

I like our chances in that format with Copper, Kelley and a healthy Lowell.

As I had thought...North Carolina was one to watch out for.

They had an RPI of 21, had played a tough schedule, losing 13 of their 15 Top 50 losses to teams in Top 15....and, having been to the CWS for four straight years, probably got the benefit of the doubt.

They did not go to the ACC tournament, that is a beef.

UNC did help themselves at end...going 14-4 in last games and being one game from making the ACC tourney....

But...a lot of ACC fans agree with y'all.....if you don't make an 8 team tournament, well, shame on you...you don't go to post season.

So you're right -- I believe it could go either way. But I think they'll be in. We'll find out soon.
Just wanted to go on record to say that you were wrong, because there is little doubt, PuppyWatcher, that you would have done the same to me. :good:

The NCAA committee elaborated on the choice of NC for the tournament...it gives you an idea of what they were thinking.

This came from a chat on NCAA.com with Committee Chair Tim Weiser.

atlanta Ga: What was the logic for selecting North Carolina over Boston College? NC did not even make ACC tournament. BC fought hard in the ACC tournament.

Tim Weiser: Participation in a conference tournament is not criteria for selection to the championship. In the case of North Carolina, the committee considered their full season of accomplishments, including a non-conference RPI of 10 (22-4 record in those games).
