Doc....they play on the TV schedule, I think. The network (ESPN) must set the time. The ACC teams seem to play early and then as you go further west, the other games plug in.

If you watched Clemson and Bama...you saw sparse stands at times because the heat index reached 110 at Clemson. It is just very hot this week in the southeast.

Night games would be preferable...but by the time the late afternoon heat dies down a little, it is 8:00 in the Central time zone and later than that out west.

    • Fever...I actually have come here every late spring since we were matched up two years past.

I say nothing about WSU, I follow the team a little but dare not claim the knowledge that Doc Wu and others of you have.

I discuss RPI, watching in the heat, pitching....I do not discuss the Shockers beyond the very general. I care not that my posting upsets you, I have seen your reactions before on the kiddie boards.

It is a "tribal" reaction that is not uncommon. Since we have been nomads wandering in the woods, some of us have always attacked those that we meet of a different tribe.

If you are not "us, you must intend harm. It is a defensive reaction.

Other than post season then, do you guys normally play late springish games in the evening, or is there just a preference for afternoon games whenever possible?

I assume the stadium has lights?

Billy- It is just the opposite. It is earlier the further west you go. It makes more sense for East Coast teams to play at night. An 8 pm start at Florida St, would be 7pm in Wichita and 5 pm on the West Coast.

Yeah..you are certainly right. But that would leave east coast guys not watching the west coast games that typically play in the evening time slot in EDT.

Re playing night ball....we do play under the lights some. But April and May are usually nice in Tallahassee and we play daytime baseball. Late May, it starts getting warmer and June is unbearable lately with temps often near 100 (today it is 97) with a heat index of 100 (lowe humidity than usual).

            • I looked it up and FSU played 31 games at 6:00 pm or later....

              • If I recall correctly, the lights at FSU are inadequate for televising night games. At least that was the reason given for not playing at night when we were there a couple years ago.

I suspect the inadequate field lighting is not an accident. I believe billybud at that time mentioned that the field lights had been recently updated/upgraded and yet they were still inadequate for night TV.

Well that is a problem then on a Shocker board.

It's ok. I understand your ignorance. Your constant ACC-tooting horn is not necessary here. We simply don't care and don't buy into it. Your ignorance has shown through by thinking it is later in Los Angeles than it is in Miami.

And now it is about heat in Florida.. because that is clearly not the norm there. And it is now used to cast out excuses for empty metal bleachers. It was pretty hot in Texas last week but that didn't stop the turnout there. The fact that you can't face realism is funny. You cannot accept the fact that FSU does not have the support you like to portray and it kills you.

And LOL at the inadequate lighting.

                    Sonny boy..."kills me"? Not hardly.

Nope. I am 63. My perspective on life is different than yours, I am sure. My ego isn 't tied to the perfomance of some 18-22 year old kids throwing a horsehide ball around.

I graduated from high school in June of 1964, joined the Corps, later mustered out and went to college, built a a good career, got married and raised a family.

Like most folks of my age, I have fought my battles. I have followed my team for almost 40 years, weathered the death of parents, a sibling, and looked cancer in the maw and said "you gotta come get me, and I'll give you a fight".

I do like sports and have watched FSU for about 40 years, but believe me, I do not get worked up about it. In the totality of what constitutes a life, neither the performance of my team nor the vigilantly defensive comments of a ego challenged sports board "gate keeper" is of much importance.

I do like the intelligent baseball talk of most of the posters here, who, God bless 'em, do not seem to feel as threatened by discoursa.

Smack is the baby talk of sports boards. We all start somewhere, I guess.

                    • You are correct about the Howser lights. They were upgraded and night games are televised.

BUT.. ( a big BUT)....the lighting does not meet ESPN standards for televised night games. I do not know if the HD came into play or not, but Sunsports does televise the night games in regular definition.

                      • You say it doesn't kill you as you continue to come back and back and write yet another 5 paragraph essay response on a board that saw its team finish baseball 2 weeks ago.

This is what you aren't getting billyboy. There are lots of opposing fan posters that I like and encourage to participate here. However, you simply are clueless/ignorant to the basic etiquette rules of opposing message boards. And that is why your presence here is not a parade in the sunshine. It has nothing to do with the fact that you aren't a Shocker fan. Sleep on that one for a while.

Were you ever on usenet ----rec.sports.baseball.college when that was the only forum for college baseball fans could congregate? You just remind me of somebody (can't even remember his handle, but was a big FSU fan).
