Originally posted by spinnerI had fun going through posts on this issue, speculations is all i read. WU Dr. WU had one post that said there is only one person this reflects poorly upon and he's a kid. I totally disagree. As for the wsu mom, great advice. Especially when you are a pro and already have it made. Let someone go after your kids in college. I always heard don't mess with a mother and her kids.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

I talked to JC today, what a great kid. You will all get to know him before he moves on. He has no plans to leave early, education is very important to him. He is not happy the way things turned out. No one has called to help him. Not even the AD, that does'nt surprise me. The baseball has no money left, financial aid is his only option. He said he got his books Friday. Pd for them out of his own pocket. Had to go over a week without books. I would not blame him if he took the first road out of town. I told him wel-come to the real world!!! Like a few said on here, he is no different than anyone else trying to claw his way through school.

I'm going to do like Wu Dr. Wu says. This is my last post ever on this message board, i'm irate how this kid was treated rather i know him or not. Alot of people would like to know about their athletes good and bad. I believe this will be just the tip of the iceberg on things to come with (YOUR) basketball program unless your AD Mr. Sexton gets involved. Wichita fans deserve the best, there is no better fans any where. That is my opinion!!

I'm going to have a couple of comments and not say anymore on this subject. I don't have any inside info on this subject, but common sense tells me some things. Some of you have criticized the AD for not doing enough. There is enough blame to go around but you're crazy if you believe that the AD has total control of the atheltic program (the ability to give strong influence perhaps). PR is the main goal and sometimes this doesn't happen. Shaus was one of the more powerful AD's in WSU history but he didn't have total control of the baseball program. Coaches also have authority until their support from big money people dries up. This is true of all Division I universities. In this case, we have several interests and probably all of them are partially right and all of them have made some mistakes and they all have huge egos. This includes Sexton, Stephenson, Marshall, and Coy.

I don't understand why everybody wants this to go away and not talk about it. We know we can (and have) criticized the baseball coaches on baseball and personal matters so that can't be it. I guess we all want to win in basketball so bad that nobody can question anything that happens? I think HCGM is a great basketball coach and will right the ship and hopefully be at WSU a long time but it appears he made a mistake.
There is NO reason to have taken Coy's books other than out of spite. There in no NCAA justification for it. Scholarships get pulled and athletes quit all the time but you don't physically take their books. You have them write a check to pay back the scholarship. There, I said it. Let the beatings begin.

I don't have any inside information about this situation but I do know that Eric Sexton is a fair and honorable individual. (If you heard our conversations, you'd wonder why I keep giving him a hard time. :D In fact, he isn't perfect and I try to remind him of this. ;-) )
The AD doesn't usually communicate directly with student-athletes but rather communicates with the coaches and with his staff. Anybody can make an appointment to see him and, if fact, he'll often stop and say "Hi" at athletic events to people he knows (e.g. "me" :D ). If a student-athlete wanted to talk to him, it would be easy to arrange but it would be very unusual for him to contact a student-athlete; this applies to women's basketball, baseball, men's basketball, volleyball, etc.
I'm a big fan of Johnny Coy and hope he has a great time at WSU. I did like learning that Sexton called Johnny's dad and I would not be surprised if he didn't call Johnny. Coaches are not robots who obey the AD's every command. If you think fault exists somewhere (and I'm not sure that any fault other than poor communications exists - but I don't know), try to be fair in placing blame. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
