A couple of quick questions:
How many conferences are over .500 in the cws?
How many of those are BCS conferences?
How many are located anywhere near the southeastern U.S.?
How many of those are generally west of the Mississipi?
Finally, name a school in the top 10 cws programs in winning percentage and what school is dead last in the rankings? (min 20 games)

Well, I don't know what Vanderbilt is. I still say baseball is only higher than 3rd at one school: LSU.
At Tennessee baseball is 4th, behind football, men's basketball and women's basketball.Comment

Help me out here. Why do you see Eck as a "pitcher's park" vs Howser as a "hitter's park"?Our pitchers are helped by playing in a pitcher's park, and your hitter's are helped by playing in a hitter's park.
What is it about Eck that is especially pitcher friendly?
By just looking at the parks, I can't figure it out.
..........Eck.............vs Howser
Left..........330.............340
Center.....390.............400
Right.......330.............320 (with 30 foot barrier on top of 8 foot wall)
I see nothing in the configuration that would make either park a "pitcher's park".
Of course, when the wind blows in at either field (as it does often) then the field becomes more pitcher friendly. I imagine you have a regular northerly in February through March/April. Here, we have a northerly, northwestern wind through March..shifts to westerly in April. A constant wind from the outfield would be the perfect ingredient for a pitchers park. Is that is what is going on at Eck?
Here, in May and June, the wind will wander throughout a game..come out of left field, wander to the left bleacher line blowing straight across the field, flirt with blowing out, than move back to the left field position.Comment

It's not looking good for the Cardinals right now, down 9-4 in the bottom of the 5th. When they do cut into the lead, the Bullldogs take those runs back and add some more. yes, the weather patterns in wichita at the time of year that college baseball is played make eck more pitcher friendly. but there are times where the wind is blowing out but for the most part eck has a northerly wind. but that also allows the wind to blow out to right just a tad.Originally posted by billybudComment

"Hitters/pitchers" parks normally have less to do with outfield dimensions and more to do with climatic conditions. There is a reason they talk about the "dead air" in domes and why they are all "pitchers" parks.
Two important points about air to remember:
1. the warmer the air, the lighter the air -- less dense than cool air.
2. the more humid the air, the lighter the air -- less dense than dry air.
This affects both hitting and pitching.
For a hitter, there is physically less air mass (resistence) for the ball to overcome and it travels both faster and further in hotter and more humid air.
For a pitcher, ball movement is a direct result of the interaction between the spin on the ball and the resistence of the air. Hotter and more humid conditions create less ball movement for the pitcher.
Cooler, drier conditions create an advantage for pitchers and a disadvantage for hitters.
Hotter, humid conditions create an advantage for hitters and a disadvantage for pitchers.Comment
