Oh gawd....I shouldn't answer this. Smack just goes round and round.

Yep,,,you guys were really good in the early 90's. I give the props. Like FSU was in football in the 90's.

I do not call FSU football "top tier" today. Nope..I am not delusional.

Congrats on your NC and your three CWS appearances. It was a good handful of years for WSU.

I am not smacking...we just had a minor disagreement on what I consider "top tier" vs what you do.

I told myself I wasn't going to comment on this because it doesn't really matter. I have never understood belittling a team that just beat you. FSU played great and won. WSU's strength was starting pitching and it didn't show. Did they whine about nothing on a few slides? Yes, but they won and deserved to advance.

We both played in the same ballpark so that is N/A. The ball does seem to fly out of that park much better than some but both teams played in the same park.

BillyBud - I think the reference to the 50 degree weather was to your comment about fan support. Common sense does tell us that more people will show up to watch games in Florida during March and April than in Wichita. I don't think that particular poster was saying anything about weather effecting the outcome of the game. I think it was in reference to attendence numbers only.

I think you really just "outed" yourself here- in terms of college baseball ignorance, along with the previous "mid tier" comment. We've been to the CWS 7 times, not 3. Ironically in those 7 appearances we've won 16 games, compared to FSU's 25 wins over 20 appearances. The math's not too hard here.

I think we can agree that both WSU and FSU are neither "mid tier", nor "elite".

And if it makes you feel any better, in spite of my general dislike for the big 3 Florida schools, I would say that FSU football is still not far off from the elite level.

            Whoa!

I have never posted that FSU was "elite"...I posted that they get to the CWS fairly often by beating mid tier teams.

Until FSU has more success playing the big boys in Omaha, I won't annoint them with elite status.

FSU is an upper mid tier team that has trouble with the pitching of the elite big boys in Omaha.

According to the Park Factors on Boyd's World, Eck and Howser are almost identical.

Before the 08 Super Regional, I've never once heard of this "Animals of Section B" thing. Never.

And after watching the sweating pigs clown around on tv, you'd think FSU would prefer to keep it that way. Again, reminded me a lot about a little league softball game. Although the little league girls didn't need help creating the chants.

And about attendance numbers, anyone got comparison statistics for the 07 Wichita Super Regional and the 08 Tallahassee Super Regional. I bet WSU with its 2 games outdrew FSU with is 3. Any takers?

                ... No really, deuces.

                  Thanks for your honesty.

                  I agree. FSU is a mid-tier program.

Yep...just a little better than WSU this year...that's my read.

                    • I don't judge programs based on a couple of games.. but if that's how you do it, then those beloved Hurricanes are slightly better than FSU.

Another sport Miami is better than FSU at.. :(

                        That's a safe bet.

WSU sold out (and then some) the Eck for the SR here last year, so ~8300 for each of those two games.

FSU was far from a sell out for their three SR games against us this year, and the box score attendance numbers that I saw were all in the mid to high 4K's.

The heck with Section B. I was not impressed with a bunch of middle-aged goofs singing and cheering material that was so random that it defied reason and logic. If our crowds suddenly started singing Tom Jones and Barry Manilow songs at the games I would probably have to smack somebody. I would have much rather seen some shots of the FSU coeds, than forced to see and hear the Section B silly randomness.

                        • Slightly better? ..they are better. Nole fans in general know that (although we rarely acknowledge that to our hated rival).

Faster on the bases....with pitchers that can be wicked when on (including the #1 draft choice).

That just might be why they have won the last 6 of the last 7 games with FSU...they are better.

                          • You don't have to like the FSU home field experience...as a WSU fan, why would you?

But, the FSU fans have fun, the park and the Animals are quirky and not boring. I don't have seats near the Animals since I do not have season tickets...I buy induvudual games and end up in the "bleacher" section on the field lines. My son and I always have a great time and it appears that the other fans do as well. And that's as it should be.

Totally agree. More power to the Section B oddities.

However, that doesn't change the fact that an outsider might find it all a bit retarded. Not all fan involvement is created equal.

                              • Hmmm...Three teams on FSU's regular season schedule are still in the CWS...Miami, Georgia, North Carolina.

FSU went 2-2 vs North Carolina, 1-1 vs Georgia, 1-2 vs Miami....

Really not that shabby a record against teams still playing.
