Who's saying the slide was dirty? Some FSU fans were complaining about it, but most agreed that it wasn't dirty. Even Delmonico said it was clean. I think you guys are focusing on something negative in order to hate FSU.

I do agree that the article was unnecessary and silly, but keep in mind that it was written by a single person. It does not represent the entire FSU fan base.

Your coach and your players. Obviously Tony was saying what he was told to say behind the scenes while the team was being whipped into a frenzy by the coaching staff and now, after the fact, they are basking in the glory of the effort to shove it down the throats of a dirty team.

I'd give stupid bandwagon fans a pass. They don't know any better. Most of the fans visiting here seem sharp enough to understand what happened. I harbor no ill will towards you.

Your team and coaches, however, I have lost respect for, a lot. I realize you won't care a bit and I understand that but they have slighted and insulted our program and that's something most of us won't stand for.

I honestly hope Tony is alright and can play. I'd love to be able to see a 100% healthy FSU team get their collective asses handed to them. I doubt however, that will happen. They are too good.....

Unfortunately, Gene Stephenson and future teams will always be associated with being 'dirty'. All because of the 1999 BC incident that is burned into most college baseball fans memory nationwide. Most fans outside of the midwest not well versed in our program's history - this incident is how they know and heard of WSU.

We play a team on the east and west coast, fans on their message board brings the incident up and it snowballs from there. Prior to the game, the media hyped up GS and MM's relationship of respect and admiration, after this series, you will never see the two programs meet up unless its in the CWS or regional somewhere.

MM is done with Gene, IMO, and it's because of a few incidents in the series and combined with MM's knowledge of the BC incident. Again, this program has been labeled dirty and it's going to take a lot (probably GS retiring) before we can restore our image.

Media perpetuates this label, other fans will perpetuate this label and it will never die, whether it is deserved or not.

I wouldn't go that far and say he won't hit in the MLB. Obviously, he won't be as successful, but I think he can be around .300. He has one hole in his swing and its the outside pitch. But pull hitters like himself are successful in the majors - look at David Ortiz, Barry Bonds, to name a couple.

Although I can think of many guys who were just as good as him in their hayday in college and their bat did not transition well over to the majors like Mark Kotsay, JD Drew, Phil Nevin to name a few.

I saved this comment for after the series is over. Let me preface my comment by saying 2 things.


1) I have absolutely no reason to believe the following insinuation actually happened.

2) Without question, it goes on all over the country.



If Buster Posey was in the Majors and went from 3 home runs in 2007 to 26 in 2008 everyone in the Senate would be screaming to have him come up and explain what kind of juice he is on.

Here is why the take by FSU is bullshit. How chicken do you have to be to say it was a rallying point AFTER the series is over? If you had any balls, you would have mentioned it all during the postgame and during the next two days. If I am Gene, and good for all of you I am not, after Martin stood me up at home plate the next day, I would never return his phone calls.

Fans being wacko, no big deal, the coaches mentioned in the article should really look at their ability to coach young men and teach them life lessons.

Any coach, player or fan who believes Jones' first slide was dirty is a blind idiot.

There is no gray area in this one. Blind idiot. Does anyone believe Coach Martin went to any player and told them they were wrong if they believed the slide was malicious? Martin may not have been pouring gas on the flames, but I suspect he wasn't dousing the flames of ignorance either.

What did the FSU players expect Jones to do? Stop running to wait and see if the infielder was going to make a crappy throw 5 feet off the bag? Start sliding 10 feet away from 1st base? Detour through the pitcher's mound to get to second in case the infielder made a crappy throw 5 feet off the bag?

Would the FSU players be happy if all college baseball players were henceforth taught to stop running or detour just in case the defense makes a crap throw to a base? Why not wait for the catcher to catch the relay from the outfield and gather himself before trying to score the game-winning run from third base? Is that what the kind and gentle FSU players plan to do?

Jones was already committed to the slide before the dud throw put Delmonico in front of him. Jones had no option other than hitting Delmonico. It's hard to change your path to the base when you're no longer on your feet.

Martin did more to jeopardize Delmonico than WSU. Why on earth do you put an injured player back into the game?

Now FSU's coaches, players and media are spinning this into "WSU is dirty" and ignoring that one of their players kicked WSU's catcher in the side of the knee 4' past home plate. If Weber has his foot planted when that kick came, it could have taken out his knee. A kick to the side of the knee (or upper shin) is one of the best ways to take out a knee.

Note to FSU fans: It's probably time for you to leave. The Tallahassee press and some of the fans who've shown up here after it's over haven't been up to the standards of some of the earlier posters.

Once again, I agree with Aargh. As I stated on another post, a fourth-grade girl could have hurt Delmonico on the second slide. Any coach in his right mind would never leave a player in after that. Not if he cared about him, anyway. This isn't the Pros, after all. With boneheaded decisions like that, he may never make it there.
