I wouldn't consider 100+ degreee weather added to all that humidity as great.

They can have their little slice of heaven, if that's what they call it.

I haven't attended a lot of WSU baseball games, but if we had at least a section, with a number of students, who did some organized cheers or such, it would be a good thing.

Just because baseball hasn't traditionally been a sport with lots of cheering, making it one at the college level could improve atmosphere, fan interest and student attendance.

I think FSU does it a little too much, though. If it were mostly situational instead of random (which was the impression I got from watching on TV), it would be more effective, IMO.

WSU had the crazy bat guy this year. He didn't last to long before he was escorted out. After watching the super, he failed probably because he didn't have cool name like Mongo, bongo, dongo and he didn't have a WSU helmet with horns.

Some people prefer the cold, I much prefer the heat. The freezing temperatures don't keep me from games but I really do hate sitting there shivering.

Football cheers? Call em what you want, I just think they should be led by official FSU cheerleaders-- is that really asking too much?

Anything that makes college baseball more popular is (probably) a good idea; if FSU fans enjoy "Mongo" then more power to them.

What I disliked was the seemingly random nature of their noise; it seemed like they were making noise just for the sake of making noise. I prefer, for example, Shocker fans' "Ball Three", "Ball Four", "Ball Five", etc. chants when the other pitcher is having control problems.

I couldn't agree more with this statement, if it helps promote college baseall in anyway that great. I for one am fine with just plain old loud cheering in big moments or when something great happpens. I mean Eck was as loud as any college stadium last year when the final out was recorded against Arizona or when THill tied the game v Irvine and that is raw pure emotion which can't be beat by any kind of organized cheering. I wouldn't like the distraction of someone running around and having to watch him/her for my que of when to do my part of the given cheer, I like to keep all my focus to what is going on, on the field. I am a geek however and I love to watch all the little things going on, I like to see if I can figure out the indicator/signs of the coaches, how the pitcher grips the ball and if he has any tipping points as to what pitch is coming, etc..

Ever since the metal grandstand was replaced with the new concrete (with chairbacks) Eck has been quiet.

The fans that used to bang on the metal really brought that place to life.

But when you put 8,000 in the seats, it's out-of-control.

I've always wondered what it would be like to be an outfielder for the opposing team that made the unfortunate mistake of making a mistake.

Those in that sit on the outfield hill know what I'm talking about.

Even if this thread is full of sour grapes, we still respect your team and your fans. Good luck next year, and hopefully we can meet again in the CWS.

I prefer sweet grapes myself. Mongo and I both prefer California wines.

For some reason, Mongo doesn't strike me as a wine aficionado. He's more of a bourbon man.

                          Miami Nole,

I don't see all the "sour grapes" you refer to, but perhaps you're only looking for the negative?

If this was a "sour grapes" thread, you would see things like:
                            CWS Championships
                            WSU 1, FSU 0

                            ;-) :D
