I am from out of town and didn't make it to any games, but could one of our mid-week starter do the closer job??????
Rob's been doing it all year. 5th complete game today. He was well under his pitch limit, so why burn an already thin bullpen. Furthermore, with the recent performance of the bullpen, no lead is safe.

Gene/Brent would have been nuts to change with a 4-run lead. The Shox don't have a closer, so no reason to expect someone to be one today.

Agaisnt Western Kentucky? Maybe, but I wouldn't think they would have to.
        I bet OSU throws #1.

You can't dismiss the 1/4 matchup. See the Nebraska vs. Eastern IL game going on right now.
Gene would throw the #1 guy no matter what, but you never know about other teams. I've seen teams hold their #1 guy back for day 2. OSU could easily have there #1 guy throw 100 pitches tonight, then come back and pitch again for 100 or 200 more on Sunday or Monday if needed....it's been done (against us :( )

        • I want a go to closer as much as anyone else. That said, this was very much not a situation where you go to a closer.

If you don't win the first one, you put yourself at a disadvantage. If I were Okie St., I'd definitely have #1 on the hill tonight.
OSU's board says they will be throwing their 1B starter Lyons against WKU. Their 1A stater, Oliver will be used in game 2 against us. And that's a big IF since WKU is clearly the favorite tonight. :D

Tulane, the #3 seed beat Florida 7-4 in the opener.

                            • Either way, I believe their Ace - Oliver, is throwing the 2 game. Regardless if it was Lyons or Oliver, they are both good and they both throw left handed so it is a good matchup against our lefty lineup. I'm hoping OSU gets really burned by WKU for not throwing their Ace.

Thanks man, are you going to root for your Big 12 brethren OSU should we face them or your in-state pal WSU?
