  • Let's clear a few things up.

Gene embarrassed himself and the program off the field. He was offered a more than fair and what would have been an extremely dignified transition into retirement. He elected to tell his boss to go to hell.

Gene was a fantastic leader of a baseball program. An innovator. He was great at what he did, no doubt.

The athletic department has gone out of their way to mend fences. Daron Boatright has made ALL former baseball players members of the All American Club. They are invited to every game. They are treated, as they should be, like royalty. Many of them have begun to support the program.

Brent Kemnitz, who was abandoned by Gene for NO reason except stubbornness and hatefulness, has been key to bridging this gap. Brent has put the University ahead of all else. Not Gene.

Gene has been invited back. Many times. He was invited for the alumni weekend. He was invited for senior weekend. He has declined every effort. He did make a video, a video in which he lied about being unable to attend.

There's no doubt this was an unusual situation. Gene was given next to nothing and told to do what you can. And he did. But he's to blame for this fiasco. No one else.

You left out the NCAA scandal that he left us with.

I was a big fan of HCGS. He recruited several kids that I was honored to coach as youngsters.

      It was time.

It's also time for HCTB to go. He's just not the right guy

Before you call anyone a liar, know your facts, all of them preferably. Gene was honored with the highest alumni distinction there is - at his own school, Mizzou, a few years ago. The WSU Baseball Alumni weekend was planned about two or three months ago and was planned for the same weekend of his own alma mater's alumni baseball weekend - to which, he had accepted to attend nearly a YEAR ago. That's how far ahead most schools plan. Unless you are entirely certain of the rest of your statements, then this is exactly how this finger pointing began. You are wrong about the NCAA and other details you mentioned. Gene never had a single NCAA violation, somewhat rare in the realm of head coaches. Check your facts. Get it straight.

So you know, this is not about correcting "who to blame" as you assert for this "fiasco." This is about setting the record straight.

Calm down. Gene is gone. The bridge is burned. Sexton is gone. At this point it doesn't really matter who lit the fire that burned the bridge.

Why are you so adamant about venting to a group of fans who are powerless to do anything about your concerns? If you want to accomplish something like mending fences with Gene and having him and the University on good (or better) terms, there's nothing we can do. Get a hold of Gene. Work with the athletic department. That's the only way you can accomplish what you want.

It becomes frustrating for those of us on ShockerNet to be unable to do anything about the concerns of a poster. Especially when we end up reading them over and over and over. We know your position. There really isn't much else you can accomplish in this venue.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

            Under Armour. Well-documented.

You might argue the merit of it or the severity of punishment, but there's a reason that the 2013 MVC Tournament title and subsequent NCAA appearance aren't listed at Eck Stadium anymore. The NCAA ruled that a violation occurred under Gene's watch.

Your note is appreciated. I am calm. I care about keeping the facts straight, whoever the authors are.

The SCHOOL was found liable and was penalized. Gene was found NOT liable, yet the program was penalized: a whole different conversation. Those are the facts.

Well, I guess that is one way to twist the facts. We all know that the NCAA penalizes schools, not coaches.

"Wichita State’s baseball program was placed on probation Thursday after the NCAA found that the Shockers used 21 players who received impermissible benefits over a two-year period."

Was Gene not the coach of the baseball program? Where they not his players? It took Todd Butler to uncover the violations and self report it.

To suggest that you understand the nuances of NCAA regulations and the full scope of the findings to the tune that I must be twisting the facts, is ridiculous. There is so much more to how liability was assigned. You are wrong.

So who fault was it? Kemnitz? J.T.? Sexton? Who was running the program when it happened?

I guess maybe Gene needed to get out of his office and manage his program. It took Butler all of 5 minutes to come in and see that something was not right and bring it to the University so they could self report their violations. But you are right - it was not Gene fault.

Just like it wasn't Gene fault the program recruiting slipped, or that his program struggled to win the MVC, or his program was no longer a Top 25 program. Proof look at how he is tearing it up at.......oh wait, nobody wanted him after he was wrongly fired. It just wasn't his fault.

Stop before you really embarrass Gene. Don't know why you seem hell bent on this but you're way off base bub.

Tell your brother to be classy and stop bad-mouthing his perception of what happened in public forums as he did one week ago. I witnessed it and thought he should start taking the high road.

I don't follow the college baseball thing, but was just scrolling through watch espn and clicked the game just to see the redbirds eliminate the bears 7-2.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
