We could hope, but don't think WSU is that lucky. But today news indicates their would be some kind of buyout. But it does look like somebody was smart enough to end the automatic 5 year rollover so maybe the damage will be limited.

The financial implications of Adams-Birch’s departure are not final, Boatright said. She is in the third season of a five-year contract that pays her around $260,000. Boatright said that WSU had exercised a provision in the contract that ended its automatic one-year extensions.

“We’re finalizing an agreement currently, and until that’s finalized, I don’t think it serves anyone well to comment,” Boatright said.

Not knowing what she did - I have no idea. I assume that as quick as they moved the university does have some leverage (but they probably would like it all to go away as quickly as possible also).

We fired a legend cause he went 15-6 in the league.

My guess is they exercised their option to end the automatic extensions after the 2014-15 season during Jody Turmoil Part I.

She still had two years plus the remainder of this year on her contract which still exceeds the $500,000 buyout provision. So absent cause that is the number. However, anything can be negotiated and the fact that they have stated they are working out the details would indicate some kind of a negotiated settlement probably with a non-disclosure provision is being worked out. So we may never find out what underlying events precipitated this. Some possibilities come to mind but I will say there is no where near the information leaking this time around which is probably a good thing. Allows all parties to move on without having to air the dirty laundry and allows Jody to leave with some dignity and the opportunity to perhaps resurrect her career with a fresh start somewhere.

Moral of the story - don't piss off your boss when you are doing that in the 15th ranked conference and still finishing 2nd and not being competitive against Top 100 (5-20).

I believe 2014-15 turned out to be Jody Turmoil Part II.

Wondering if during the time WSU exercised their option to end the automatic extensions, they also made clear to her and her attorneys what will be considered as "cause" going forward which was agreed to by both parties rather than there being a contested battle to fire for cause and everything gets aired out at that time. I, too, agree that a lack of information leaking is a good thing, primarily for any player(s) involved and maybe Jody. Pure speculation, but I think Jody may need more than a team shrink and getting away from the grind of coaching would greatly help her. Short of this, I'm not as forgiving and would hope she does not resurrect her coaching career.

For the Shocks to come anywhere close to that record PC Mike Steele will have to be an absolute miracle worker. Maybe he will prove to be that but that is one tall order, perhaps even unreasonable to expect.

Interesting article in the Eagle today on Coach Steele's approach. Down is Good.

I hope you're right but by my count you have picked 13 series wins out of a total of 15 series. We had 4 series wins last year, Bradley and MSU (combined 18-22 in MVC), Northern Colorado (the 1st series of the year, they finished 15-32 with a 268 RPI) and Stephen F Austin (30-30). We also only won 2 games in a row 7 times last season and never won more than 2 in a row. If we pull off a 44-12 season it may go down as one of the best turn arounds of all time!
