  • Shocks at KU

Regardless of what you think of HCTB and this year's Shocker team you have to root for the Shocks to beat the Jayhawks.

Connor Lungwitz has the start but ran into trouble in the 2nd. He retired 5 of the first 6 he faced allowing only an infield hit but with 2 outs and a runner on 3rd in the 2nd he does what so many Shocker pitchers have done this year. He simply can't get that last out. He gave up two doubles and two singles and was fortunate to get out of the inning when the Shocks mishandled the relay throw on the last single but threw a runner out at the plate as Tanner Kirk did a good job of backing up the throw.

Shocks now get 2 singles to open the 3rd inning. Let's see if they can produce anything.

Nope. Ritter gets a swinging bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Grayson Jenista struck out on 3 pitches. Gunnar Troutwine walked (semi-intentional?) on 4 pitches to load the bases. Alec Bohm grounded into a force at 3B. SMH.

Biechler on in relief of Lungwitz to start the KU 3rd. Lungwitz ERA is now a scintillating 9.64 on the year.

May as well have just left Lungwitz in. After 1 out Biechler gives up a walk and home run the 1st of the year for the KU hitter and only the 9th home run overall for KU on the season.

      KU leads 5-0.

Normally you might hold out some hope that the Shocks could come back since it is only the 3rd inning but that is exceedingly difficult to do with this Shocker team.

In the top of the 4th 1-out singles by Tinkham, Dugas and Vickers plus a wild pitch produced a run but with runners on the corners Mucha grounded into a 6-3 double play to end the inning. Of course.

Shox finally get a big hit, with Tinkham delivering a 2 RBI single w/2 outs. 5-3 KU, WSU still batting in the 5th.

Indeed, although it could have been more. Jenista thrown out at home for the 2nd out of the inning.

NEWS FLASH: Hayes is HORRIBLE this year. Quit throwing him in high-leverage innings.

John Hayes gives up a double and a homer in the 6th. KU leads 7-3 after 6. Sigh.

He's got an ERA over 9 in like 20 appearances. Holy learning curve, coach.

Aaaaand KU brings in a dude with an ERA of 12 and an opponent batting average of like .380 so the Shox go down in order.

Going to the bottom of the 8th the Shocks trail 3-8. They will need at least 5 to tie in the 9th.

Ok, can we finally ALL agree that this past weekend was a fluke?

Man, Missouri State should feel embarrassed.

                            ... No really, deuces.

Anything is possible. Sad though... Didn't even listen / watch the game.
