I was a little surprised that Jon Harris came back out to pitch the 7th considering he had already thrown 96 pitches I believe and he had sat on the bench for the interminably long bottom of the 6th inning.

Definitely a bad call, but the runner didn't help himself by diving into first base. When will people learn that you actually get to first base quicker by running through it as opposed to diving. I guarantee if he runs through the bag he's called safe.

For the record, I can say as one who has been a coach and an official, I hate instant replay, especially in baseball. Certain calls are made based on different situations, and human error is part of the game. Coaches, players, and umpires alike all make mistakes. Get rid of instant replay and let the human element of the game come back.

I'm definitely not a fan of failing to run through the bag, and I've seen sliding cost runners several times vs. never seeing it help -- but the real question is this: given his comment about replay, is fanmas actually Jorge Orta in real life, or is he Don Denkinger? Considering that he identified himself as a former "official," I'm guessing Denkinger.

2 things bothered me with the call at first: 1. The umpire stayed glued to the right field line. It's like he couldn't tell the play was going to be close and he needed to get a better angle. He was behind the bag when he made the call. 2. He seemed unsure of what to call, yet failed to ask for help. It looked like one of those plays where the body is moving towards the safe motion and "out" came out of his mouth. I think 2nd base umpire was in a better position, but he stuck with the call with no help.
