The Tigers have signed 7 of their Top 10 picks. Assuming they sign the remaining 3 picks at slot they only have $63,800 available to pay over slot without incurring the 75% tax. If they don't sign those other 3 Top 10 picks their bonus pool is reduced by the slot for those picks. They can not use that money to sign other players without penalty.

In addition to 3 unsigned Top 10 picks, the Tigers have another 12 unsigned picks beyond the Top 10 rounds. At this point they just don't have much room left to pay above slot without incurring the penalty tax.

I don't think teams have to report bonuses on Round 11 through 40 draft picks as long as they do not exceed $100,000 as that has no impact on the bonus pool available.

Detroit reported signed their 14th round pick, a RHP from Georgia Tech, for $100,000 although BA does not report this. The Tigers have their 4th, 8th and 9th rounds yet to sign. My guess is that the most the Tigers would be willing to offer Chase Rader at this point is $100,000 grand.

First, that they signed. Second, who knows for what amount? They haven't been disclosing those amounts after the 10th round, but then there is the $80,000 the 488th pick in your sample group, so what the heck does that mean as well?

Interesting side note on the team signings:

Fewest top 10 picks signed: Baltimore 6, Giants 3.

Fewest overall picks signed: Oakland 21, Giants 10.

What the heck is going on with the Giants? Only 20 players in the top 4 rounds have not been signed by the 30 MLB teams and the Giants have 4 of them.

Another note: Virginia had 3 players chosen in round 1 and 1.5. All 3 are among the 20 not signed.

I wonder if Virginia being in the CWS finals may have something to do with this. We will seen now that the CWS is over with Vandy winning over Virginia.

that what I'm asking - there are some players with "Pool" and some with it blank - does it mean if they have "Pool" they have signed? Or does it matter? There are some that are bolded - which does seem to mean they have been signed. Rader is not bolded, but does have "Pool"....

Word pool with regular font is NOT signed. Blank or $ amount, font bold IS signed.

In your excerpt from the chart, SB, everyone who is NOT in bold type (and thus unsigned) has pool after his name.

Here is a link to the original page for the 1st round picks.

The search criteria on the right side of the page allows you to search the full spectrum of the 2014 draft. To see the page @SB Shock excerpted type in Round 16 in the Search filters.

I looked at Round 39 and 40 where the great majority of picks are not signed. All the unsigned picks have pool following their name. Click on the word pool and you can see the amounts discussed in Post #15 above.

As @WSUwatcher points out every unsigned player has the Pool link.

Anybody have an update on Sam's MRI? I believe it was scheduled for sometime this week.

A couple of nice articles on incoming freshmen:

                          Brad Kinsey

                          Taylor Goshen
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Two other incoming freshmen, Jeb Bargfeldt and Bret Fehr, named Louisville Slugger First Team All Americans.

So far the surprise for me among the Shocks playing summer ball is T.J. Looney who is pitching for the San Diego Force.

He as a 0.82 ERA in 22 innings with 30 strike outs vs 6 walks. Maybe T.J. is final mastering the new delivery and arm slot that Brent tried to implement during the season last year without much success. T.J. had an ERA of 16.43 in 7.2 innings last year for the Shocks. Perhaps he will be able to make a positive contribution next year.

Chase Williams the 6-6, 225 lb. RHP our to Eastern Oklahoma State who sat out last year after TJ surgery in June 2012 was reported to be hard thrower (92-95), but on the raw and the wild side.

Last season at EOS he struck out 18 in 14.2 innings but he walked 23 and hit 6 batters. That has continued this summer as he has struck out 19 in 16.1 innings but walked 24 (not sure how many he has hit, if any) for the Sanford River Rats in the Florida Collegiate Summer League.

Looks like Brent may have a Nuke Laloosh to try to mold. I suppose that explains why Brent has been seen frequenting the women's undergarment sections in department stores this summer. At least I hope that's the reason. :biggrin-new:
