I hung out with JJ during a snow out game in Omaha. The son of a ***** stole my Doritos. Ever since then, he and I are always groupthink.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I was wondering when you were taking a vacation this year.
When you get back, make sure you put that checker board in the closet and I'll teach you how to play chess.

Actually I have been thinking of taking some time and traveling to parts unknown at this time. Just don't know at this time. May head east or I may head to the south or I may do both. Don't know if I want to go for 10 or 20 days so it gives me a lot of wiggle room. The only commitment I have is the Navy/AF game in Colorado Springs in October. But I will keep everyone informed so as to not cause undue panic among the posse.

              Pogo's Place

....... " I'll teach you how to play chess." ......

I don't think you want to go there. I've been to Pogo's house , and seen his chess gear. I know he's lost a lot of brain cells over the years , but I think he would still be a formidable opponent . He usually plays 1. e4 , and with black he likes the Sicilian Defense if possible.

You guys ever disagree with each other?
Hell yes there's disagreement. @JJClamdip: has set his DVR to record every World Cup soccer game he can get stuffed onto that electronic device, while @SB Shock: can't stand the sport and prefers watching vintage East German Kegeling Championship matches.

They always said that alcohol kills brain cells. I always looked at it as just killing off the weak ones. Its always good to cull the weak and the slow.

                      Hey Pogo:

No offense, but if I were you, I would head north or west (at least for the summer). As for me, I will be working my arse off in Houston, aka 'Baghdad on the Bayou'.

I have promised myself that once I retire, I will never spend another summer in Houston.

Places that look good to me are (in no particular order): Anywhere in the mountains; Duluth, Minnesota; Thunder Bay, Ontario; and UP of Michigan.

In reading this, you might infer that I would like to retire, and you'd be right. I am envious.

Not quite in the UP of Michigan, but look at the Torch Lake area near Grand Traverse Bay on west side of Michigan or perhaps Harbor Springs on Little Traverse Bay.

Khan, unless you have a specific interest in the upper Midwest (as it sounds like you might), when the time comes for you, you should consider the Olympic Peninsula in Washington or western Idaho during the summer. Both give you cool and pleasant weather, often even sweater or jacket weather -- not something you'll ever encounter in Houston -- at night (and sometimes during the day, too, in Washington). Also, neither is typically rainy in summer, even Washington, assuming you're in the right area like the "rain shadow" along the north coast near Port Angeles or Sequim. Plus, you don't get the hummingbird size mosquitoes that plague the upper Midwest in summer.

Edit: Another classic Shockernet deviation: from 2014-15 WSU baseball to summertime travel advice. Sorry about that.

Actually, not many know this, but JJ is a fan of Creighton soccer. Always has been.

Actually, you are partly right about Houston's nickname. It is "Big Bagdad on the Dirty Bayou." It has also been called "The Murder Capital of the World" and "The Air Conditoning Capital of the World." Another lesser known title is "Big H. on the Muddy B.B."

Of course, either Washington D.C. or Chicago has snapped up the Murder Capital title.

If you are wondering how I came up with the above crap, I had to know it, when I was a freshman.
