So, Standiford and Hooper were interviewed, but Butler picked this guy? I get that there may be a comfort level in going with an Arkansas guy, but there's no comparison when it comes to experience. I hope it's because Mark and Kevin each turned down offers. Otherwise, this is the first thing to make me question the Butler hire.

I'm sure the guy has matured a little bit in 7 years. Lord knows I made a fool of myself a time or two back in the day and my temper was pretty hot as young buck.

Maybe this guy fits the budget... we are doling out $1.0MM in head coaching salary for 2014.

If only novels were written with graphs instead of words - I could be a great fiction author.
There were only three gauges that concerned me, fuel, altitude, airspeed. The others were just icing on the cake. Come to think of it if the FIRE light lit up that was a concern also. Also make sure all the pins to the seat were pulled. Come to think of it there was just a whole lot of crap that was worrisome. Nope, loved the engineers and the guys that kept them together.

I guess I see now why they kept BK...

And thus the storied tradition of Shocker baseball fell by the waste-side for Razorback baseball. Well done Mr. Sexton.

I've been pretty quiet over this whole Gene situation. Whether or not Gene deserved to stay, what's done is done. But this new coaching staff we have in place (aside from Brent of course who will always be one of the best pitching coaches in the game) does not wow me at all. We hire the former Arkansas hitting coach and Arkansas has been at the bottom of the SEC in hitting the last 2 years. Very unimpressive. Then we hire this Brian Walker as an assistant who quit frankly hit as well as he acted, not very well. Not to mention seems like a total hothead.

My patience has been pretty then with ADES all along, but I am real close to boycotting all things WSU until we get rid of this Sexton clown. Was not a fan when he took the job, still not a fan. I'm sure I'll get ripped for saying all this, and that's fine, everybody is entitled to their opinion. This is mine.

I will give this new "coaching" staff a chance, but I seriously doubt I will be paying too much attention to WSU baseball in the future. I hope I'm proven wrong, but I'm not expecting any better results in the next 4 years than we have had in the last 4. Come on guys, prove me wrong and make me eat crow. That is all.

                    New Coach

Shockfamoux, you pretty much sound like people I've discussed global warming with; they cherry pick a subset of the data & claim that is why they don't believe in it. That's exactly what you did with the AR BA for the past 2 yrs. AR had 13 players taken in the ML draft at the end of the 2012 season. When you look at what Todd B did for them as their hitting coach over his entire career, it's an entirely different story.

This is a good point. Until you consider that it is exactly the reason we even have a new coach. If all one is allowed to do is look at a complete body of work, Gene would never have been fired. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just pointing out the similarities.

If we are serious about talking about complete body of work that includes a lot of stuff off the field as well.

Ask UCLA if they needed to hit the tar out of the ball to win a national championship. They pretty much dominated the CWS field by not overpowering anyone (except from the mound).

One class of draftees affecting a season or two of performance is reasonable. Five years of poor performance is a trend. I personally care about the W/L a lot more than batting average or ERA. And that poor hitting team still had a 2 seed.

Arkansas has done quite well over the past several years and these coaches have been a cog in that success. I will wait to see what they can do at WSU before I judge.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I think it's a pretty good sign these guys wanted to follow Todd Butler.

There has yet to be a bounce-back year that indicates this wasn't a trend. The trend-line at WSU was upward over the same period.
