If you look at his comment I don't think he is doing it in a whining attitude. I think it is just a very clever, calculated slap at what WSU isn't. I think he knows very well what he is saying and thinks the rest of us are too stupid to understand. Go back and read what he says and see if you don't see where this could be coming from.

Frankly, that's why he left for OU. He didn't want to work so hard to keep his own personal goals of fame intact, to hang with what might happen to WSU after he left. If he really cared about his own fame and the WSU program he built, he shouldn't have left and/or, when he came back, prove to everyone else and himself, by working harder than ever, to see that both continue to succeed at a high level.
Krusty is just being Krusty. I'm not so mad at him as I am the media who continues to feed his ego and attitude. Just stop it media! Nothing good is going to come of continuing to put him in the paper or on the air. We've been seeing for a few years now that this day was coming and that he was not going to go gracefully. I'm sure the settlement and the divorce have both altered his preferred life style and he's "in need" of several more years of big pay days. That's not WSU's fault. Neither is the situation that Gene has found himself in. Neither is the working relationships he has had with not just this AD, but also ones in the past. Gene not only built a famed program from nothing, he also laid out most of the groundwork for the mess he found himself in.
1) He could have stayed at OU.
2) He could have stayed at WSU and worked harder to protect his fame and the legendary program he built.
3) He could have come back to WSU and done the same as in #2.
4) He could come back to WSU and get sidetracked with questionable personal diversions, not update the program from a technical standpoint, not put new blood and new fire into the program, feel entitled to finish out his days as he saw fit with no repercussions from WSU.
He chose poorly.

Notice the difference between Butler's statements about WSU noting all the great things this program is and has going for it with Gene's statements about WSU noting all the things it does not have and has going against it. If a coach is no longer sold on the program, how can he convince any recruit to be?
You don't even have to think Gene is whining excessively (although you can) or diminish the legitimacy of how difficult his task was to say that 30 years of grinding away at a job can cause anyone to lose some of their passion for it. There is no shame it that. However, once that passion has diminished, it is time to move on so that someone who does have that passion can take the reins.Last edited by The Mad Hatter; June 23, 2013, 09:31 PM."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players

Originally posted by The Mad Hatter View PostIn fact, Gene's statements about how difficult it was at WSU and his desire to be at a program without those obstacles are precisely the proof that this change needed to be made (aside from all the off the field issues). While he is certainly to be admired for all that he did here, once a coach has gotten to the point that they perceive the school they are at as being a burden rather than an opportunity, it is time to move on.

Now that I think about it..........there are some other differences as well.

I just saw Gene at a convenience store at 21 and webb getting a redbox. As I pulled up I noticed an older man having some trouble getting out of his car real slow. He was right in front of me as I also had plans to get a redbox. He was on the phone most of the entire time to, Im guessing a woman, who he planned to watch the movies with. He was real nice, asked my opinion about a movie and I even had to help him a little as he was having trouble with the machine. But he picked out 42, MUD and Identity Thief and had plans to watch them all tonight. To me he looked like any other old rich retired white guy, even had the palm tree shirt on lol (Also I think he may live in the Hawthorne) At any rate I figured I would give my opinion TMZ style. Its just so boring on shockernet. I cannot wait until BBALL season starts!!
