BK was quoted as saying it would be a "big time" hire. Is BK willing to put his career on the line for Heefner? If it fails, BK will get the pink slip. So will Sexton. If you're going to miss, it better be Shock & Awe. I don't see paying Heefner $350-$400K. If you go outside the family, there are better people.

Can't argue with that. However, I do think that the fan base and donors will be much more patient with a family hire or big name guy with proven results. 3 years of modern Gene ball by a Heefner type and the pitchforks will be out again.

I agree about the "family guy", not the big name guy with proven results. That type of hire will get the least amount of time to not only produce, but produce big. One could also view such a hire as the biggest risk for WSU, not necessarily for ADES. After Gene's statement about WSU as he took the OU job and then his own relative continuing drop in performance, a fail by a big name guy could permanently place WSU as just another mediocre Valley team.

Home run Hire or go with somebody from the Shocker family, those are the only two things that will gel the fan base. Anything else will be viewed with disappointment. Maybe Heefner pays off in 5 years, but as for butts in seats in next year, he barely moves the needle.

The only thing that puts butts in the seats in Shocker Nation is winning. If Heefner comes in and wins, people will show up. Dallas Baptist is a great program, we'd be lucky to get him in Wichita. Plus, he can recruit the Texas region. Something we need because right now because we're losing Kansas and Oklahoma recruits to the "BCS" programs. Win with Texas kids, and the Kansas and Oklahoma kids will follow.

I guess I'm not part of the "fan base" as some have made reference to, because I'm going to support whoever they hire as the next head coach at WSU. Will someone from the family get more of a pass than someone else? Sure, but I can remember when Randy was hired and I'm sure 99% of the fan base loved it myself included. It was beyond painful to see what happened to the program and RS's frustration at what was happening. By supporting the new guy whoever it may be I believe I will be supporting what GS built. I will be supporting BK as he continues to represent WSU as one of the best college pitching coaches in the country. I will be supporting my university even though I scratch my head once in awhile. I will do all of this and know in my heart that it is the right thing to do.

Offer has been made to Heefner. It is his to have or turn down. Really not an easy decision for someone that recruits Dallas area and is successful. Tough to leave that hotbed and expect to recruit it from out of state. Plus it is going take someone that can handle the spotlight.

I just don't feel comfortable with this guy. He doesn't sound like the "Big Time Coach" that BK said would be hired. I don't know who else they looked at, but it surely seems like they could have gotten a more high profile candidate. I also wonder why his team tied for sixth and seventh in a very weak conference? Just doesn't give me much confidence. I think you would really see a lot of empty seats at the Eck if the Shox were to ever finish tied for sixth and seventh.

If you want someone with D1 HC experience, then Heefner is basically the lone option. I think most feel like if it's Heefner versus someone within the family tree with a lesser or totally lacking D1 resume, they'd rather opt for the family tree guy.

I'll take Heefner over Hibbs every day of the week. Heefner has his plusses - same recruiting area, solid hitting results (gosh wouldn't that be nice again), knows the valley.

Not sure I'd take Heefner over one of the family tree high risk/reward options.
