I did not say the Louisville coach would come here. The point is, the new guy better have some CWS experience either as a player or coach. Heefner has 0 CWS appearances. 0 Super Regionals won. It won't fly. Shocker Baseball has lost 900 season ticket holders. A Dan Heefner does not inspire those people to come back. They will do what they are doing now -- stay home and wait and see. WSU can't afford that.Trying to sell a season ticket package based on "Coach's team was 9th in the country in homeruns" doesn't sell. Somebody who has no experience with the CWS, media requests, etc etc doesn't belong here. That's not arrogance, this just isn't on the job training.
I have missed very few Shocker baseball games (home and away) for the last 36 years. If they hire Heffner they probably lose me. Certainly an elite college baseball program like Wichita State can do better.

    • You guys realize taking a small, expensive D-2 private school (even one in Texas) into Division 1 as an independent and gaining at-larges and winning a regional is the rough equivalent of some coach taking Longwood or Presbyterian to the dance multiple times as a 6 to 11 seed and making a Sweet 16? Oh, and the guy does it as a 35 year old. With no resources.

Heefner is absolutely one of the top 3 or 4 hot young head coaches in all of college baseball.

      • I don't get the Heefner love and to me that would be a disaster hire from a pr standpoint. The comparison's to Marshall and this coaching search are irrelevant. WSU baseball is a proven winner and while not a "blue blood" of the sport it is on the outside looking in. A basketball comparison might be someone like Louisville. wsu basketball is a descent program ( i am talking win/loss records and post season success) with excellent community support. They are not even comparable. The mind sight at the Eck has always been national championship or bust, well at least it was.

Can you explain why his team finished an awful 6th place this year in the super weak WAC? They went 30-30 and had a RPI of 153. They should have totally dominated a conference as super weak as the WAC. We fire Gene after he finishes 2nd (and no worse than 3rd) because we don't like the results over the last 5 years.

Certainly we can do better than this guy.

Good excuse to get out of the heat.

Could you please tell me several realistic candidates that you prefer to him? I have a feeling there will be no pleasing some of Gene's most vocal supporters with this hire.

              • Heefner has had more success in the last 5 years than Gene has had in a much tougher place to win.

Do you have Shocker Baseball season tickets?
If Heefner is hired, are you "scratching a check" to buy season tickets?

                  Just curious.

God you are annoying with your weird attempts at callouts.

Yes, I own 2 season tickets. They get used by family members who still live in Kansas and a charity in town. Go roast in hell for whatever you're attempting to prove with this post.

What, exactly, was the resolution of your theft and attempted sale of Rosewood's photos that was publicly and embarrassingly discussed on this board several years ago? And why did you do it?

Yes I am one of the people who was unhappy Gene was fired. But I felt 1000% better when Brent was kept. I feel like the new coach should either be someone from the family or if not, a home run kind of hire. Maybe someone who has at least been to the CWS once. I am pretty nervous about a guy who couldn't do any better than 6th place last year in the super weak WAC. I guess after watching Shocker baseball for 36 years and NEVER seeing us do that bad, I can't phantom that possibility.

As far as candidates go, I have known Eric for a long time and I am confident he and Brent are doing their due dillegence and will come up with a great coach. I hope the name we are hearing is NOT the one they hire. I would be very disappointed in both of them if that happens. If he is one of several candidates they have looked at, no problem. Hopefully we will do better.

                        • Great, I'm glad they go to charity.

I probably know more about this fan base than you, Skippy. And trust me, Eric is wondering if DH is going to alienate more Shocker fans.

I'm sure the baseball program could do better than a fan who bails before the new product has a chance to yield any form of results.

After you have been to as many Shocker baseball games as I have, then I will pay attention to what you have to say.
