My scuddle-butt says Heefner is the guy...was in town yesterday.

My fingers are crossed. Heefner and Todd Butler were the top two names who expressed an interest in the opening from what I've heard. This would be an excellent get.

Go back a few years, 2006 to be exact. Check and see who first said Gregg Marshall. When I returned from Greensboro, I said 3G was the man. A full year before Turg left, I nailed it.

He didn't say you didn't correctly pick Marshall, he said that the standard you are placing on the baseball hire would have excluded Marshall if it had been applied to the basketball hire since Marshall had not already been to a Sweet Sixteen or better (the rough basketball equivalent of Super-regional/CWS appearances).

It's a big jump from being in town for an interview to being the guy. My guess is ADES and BK have or will whittle their list down to 5 finalist all of whom will get interviews. From there ADES may make his pick or narrow the field down to the final two and conduct one more final interveiw before making a final choice. We will see.

I'm glad that some of you are feeling better about having a proven head coach. The personality of the coach is what makes the hire. Of course, Marshall is a great hire. But WSU did hire a winning (about a 65% winning percentage)head coach named Scott Thompson about 20 years ago who was offered a lot of money because of his winning history and background. A nice guy and he had a winning pedigree but he couldn't recruit to WSU. We need an aggressive young guy who believes in himself, won't take no for an answer, and will work his behind off to recruit the type of players who'll win here.

Looks like Dallas Baptist made a Super Regional in 2011 and a Regional Final last year, getting at-large births in both years. First NCAA tournament was 2008, where they lost their first two games, though they were a #2 seed.

Receiving three at-large invites as an Independent is pretty impressive.

They did make their conference tournament final this year.

Dan Heefner's Bio -- He is definitely a qualified candidate for the Wichita State Job IMHO.

The only issue I could see people have with Heefner is that he may be a little too clean cut. Although I doubt that would bother ADES or parents of recruits much.

In fact, Heefner sounds a bit like the anti-Gene.

Could be, and although my sources are quick trigger media types, they feel it is more than a "whittle" down effect...but we will see.

Coaches already making the CWS are not going to come to Wichita State, get over it.

Funny with your silly demands, Marshall would have never been considered for Basketball. Would have been some KU, Duke, UNC, UK assistant.

We have already done the unc asst route. Didn't work well at that time either.

Not me. I don't see anyway Eric can pick Heefner. This past season the guy had a season WORSE than ANY that Gene had in 36 years. If the guy can't do better than 6th place in the very weak WAC, we don't need him at Wichita State.

We just fired a guy whose worst 5 years include no worse than a 3rd place finish, I don't see how we can turn around and hire a guy who is coming off a 6th place finish (in an even weaker conference than the Valley) with a team that had a RPI of 153. Those numbers would be totally unacceptable here.
