Ben Thomas, from Shocker pitcher was also on Sports Daily this week and could not say enough good things about Hooper.
According to Eagle: This week, Wichita Wingnuts manager Kevin Hooper, a former Shocker, made his long-rumored interest in the job public. He has the backing of Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who contacted Sexton.
I can't imagine a stronger recommendation tha Jim Leyland.

Please classify Hooper's coaching style of play. Is it aggressive 1988-1996 Shocker baseball?
Post Gary Ward, I remember when Tom Holliday and Frank Anderson took over the helm for the Pukes and I nearly puked.Last edited by DaShox; June 8, 2013, 12:06 PM.Egotism is the anesthetic of stupidity.

Regarding Kevin, I am starting to get to "that place" where I am going to start supporting his hire. I've been doing some research and it seems apparent he is a managerial talent that is in high demand. I have questions about his ability to recruit high school kids which I think are legitimate but the more I learn the more I like.
Would he be able to win at WSU? Of course...will he? I have no idea. But I believe this:
It's obvious he wants the job. He's turned down multiple opportunities to get into the minors and people want him. They recognize his talent and that's more than good enough for me.
He's been successful for the 'Nuts with few resources....I'd like to see what he can do with a bunch of resources.
He's extremely likely to see this as a destination job. Anyone that stays with the unaffiliated Wingnuts for 5 seasons isn't a jumper. He's waiting for this job, and no other.
Hoop brings to the table many of the qualities I believe the average WSU fan cherishes. He's a tireless worker. He loves WSU and Wichita. He's a family man. He believes in discipline and will not accept nonsense. His teams play hard and he has very high expectations. From all accounts he can sell ketchup Popsicles to women in white gloves.
He will restore honor and expectations with accountability to WSU Baseball. His moral character is unchallenged.
Some people are born winners...others are made. I'm not sure which way it is with Kevin, but I know he's a winner.
But even if he wasn't, he'll get kids to do the right thing, play hard, be accountable, he'll bust his butt for WSU and he'll create an environment that I will be proud to support. He'll do what's right. Yes, I want WSU to win, but all the other things I really care about he'll do, and that's good enough for me.
I think his players will run through walls for Hoop....I'd love to have a chance to as a supporter.

If they want to go former Shocker and minor league coaching experience route, then PJ Forbes seems like a better choice than Hooper. He was also a hard nosed player that gave 110% (of course that also describes Jim Thomas) but has more coaching experience.

In what way did he make it public?
Reporter: "Coach Hooper, the Nuts played well tonight. How do feel about the team now?"
Hooper: "Does anyone have any questions about the opening at WSU? I can't wait to speak with Dr. Sexton because I am the man for the job!"
Just curious.

Remember!!
When Gene was at the top of his game Love for the program didnt keep him from getting in his car WITH his coaches and goinng to OU to take a "better Job". Where was his devotion to his program. I was at the Battery Club meeting when he came back. He returned because OU lied to him not because he loved WSU and "his boys".

Wonder if these guys that "guarantee" something or make the statement about "take it to the bank" are investment brokers? If so, contact me. I could use some sure money. I love positive people that have great insight into what others (whom we don't know if they have any contact with) are thinking and doing.

Shox21, buy physical gold and silver (silver is the best value now). Do not buy stocks. The stock market is a huge bubble right now created by Obummer and the fed printing $85 billion a month. That bubble will burst when they stop printing.
If you have an ounce of silver to bet on the next coach at WSU, put your money on Hooper.
