Gene said that everyone would be fired. It wasn't reported, and I'm telling you that comment isn't factual. Brent was absolutely not going to be fired unless it was simply a legal-strategic move for ease of paperwork. Brent was staying.
Brent was asked to stay on, yes, but I think you have to put 2 and 2 together and see if that really just happened at the last minute or perhaps earlier? Personally, I don't believe it happened that day, hint hint nudge nudge wink wink know what I mean know what I mean?
Brent is NOT hanging around to see how the new coach and he get along. He's in this for the long haul and is going to get a long term contract.
As to your speculation:
1)I have no idea but he made the correct decision whether he likes Gene or not. 2)You're wrong. ADES will hire the best person for the job regardless if he's a Shocker or not. 3)Maybe. I agree, that's pure speculation. 4)Yes, and he's not going with Gene, end of discussion.THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE

Gene has been abused to no end on this board for that move to OU and now many of those same folks are excited about Brent staying on? All three coaches left, and returned, and by his own admission Brent was the one that wanted to go and Gene was the one that never seemed sure of the move (although he did make it). If you are going to fault Gene for his comments when leaving, that is somewhat understandable but I don't think for a second he was dissing the program he built. Did he say it would be harder to win at WSU than OU? Sure, that is probably a fact. Did he say he had accomplished all he could at WSU? Yes, people will take that different ways, but chances are he meant he won a National Championship here and that is the top prize.
Brent's character is looking very suspect right now. We can sit here and talk smack about the person that built this program, but when I see a stubborn, strong-willed, ego-filled, gruff man reduced to tears because he was forced to leave before he was ready. And then I see a guy who acts like everything is roses and beautiful and has never been more excited even though every one of his co-workers has just been fired. I think it's pretty easy to see which one is being sincere.

Either Gene wasn't told the entire staff was fired (which he was) or the AD knowingly lied to him and BK knowingly stabbed him in the back. If this is true I can never support BK in any way as a Shocker coach. Brent has admitted over and over that Gene took the OU job because that was Brent's dream job. Then to stab Gene in the back by plotting with the AD to stay on after the entire staff is "supposedly" fired. Yeah, no thanks... That is called being a "buddy fu--er". Also keep in mind Gene is probably where he is today because of his loyalty to his staff (I think too loyal, but you can't really argue his loyalty to his coaching staff).

I sure wish we could hear about some people interested in the position. I've seen several people comment that Kevin Hooper has thrown his hat in the ring, but I can't find any video or report on it. If someone has a link and could post it that would be great.
Regarding Kevin, I am starting to get to "that place" where I am going to start supporting his hire. I've been doing some research and it seems apparent he is a managerial talent that is in high demand. I have questions about his ability to recruit high school kids which I think are legitimate but the more I learn the more I like.
Would he be able to win at WSU? Of course...will he? I have no idea. But I believe this:
It's obvious he wants the job. He's turned down multiple opportunities to get into the minors and people want him. They recognize his talent and that's more than good enough for me.
He's been successful for the 'Nuts with few resources....I'd like to see what he can do with a bunch of resources.
He's extremely likely to see this as a destination job. Anyone that stays with the unaffiliated Wingnuts for 5 seasons isn't a jumper. He's waiting for this job, and no other.
Hoop brings to the table many of the qualities I believe the average WSU fan cherishes. He's a tireless worker. He loves WSU and Wichita. He's a family man. He believes in discipline and will not accept nonsense. His teams play hard and he has very high expectations. From all accounts he can sell ketchup Popsicles to women in white gloves.
He will restore honor and expectations with accountability to WSU Baseball. His moral character is unchallenged.
Some people are born winners...others are made. I'm not sure which way it is with Kevin, but I know he's a winner.
But even if he wasn't, he'll get kids to do the right thing, play hard, be accountable, he'll bust his butt for WSU and he'll create an environment that I will be proud to support. He'll do what's right. Yes, I want WSU to win, but all the other things I really care about he'll do, and that's good enough for me.
I think his players will run through walls for Hoop....I'd love to have a chance to as a supporter.

There was a statement by Gene to the media that if he was fired everybody that everybody else was going. I have heard that Shane Dennis has not heard anything about his status yet and I would hope he is retained. That is one area I would fault the AD if he has not addressed all employees in the Baseball program one way or the other.

Thanks goodness. Coach Hill is starting to really grow on K-State's fan base.
Remember that time you guys pulled the wicked joke on Gene to get back at him for the OU thing.
You know you said you fired him........ but really hadn't put in the paperwork and were just going to let him stew for a week or two. Then you can hire him back for a better contract and have a Gene Reunion Game next year!!!!!!!!!
Its brilliant!!!!!!! :adoration:
