I think it's possible Loren would be considered. Whether he would rise to the top of the list is impossible to predict.

Yeah, he and Tulane's Rick Jones were pretty hot on the opening back then. I gather that Golloway has turned into our biggest ****-talking detractor when it comes to recruiting since he took the OU spot though. He is not afraid to get vicious.

I'm sure a lot of that has to do with his dislike of Gene, but it is hard to imagine him leaving Norman for us at this point.

Yes, that is a downward trend. If those 5 years are acceptable, much less upward trend, all this discussion is moot. You certainly don't need, nor should pay, a coach $500,000 plus to get those results in the Valley. The other Valley schools have proven that.
Which other Valley school has been to the tournament half the time over the past 6 years?

I would be stunned if Loren Hibbs wasn't considered or if he wasn't interested. However, he's had varying levels of success at UNCC where in 20 seasons he's had 8 at .500 or below. No doubt he can coach though. However, I'm not sure hiring a coach older than I am is what we're looking to do at this point in the game.

We could do a LOT worse than Loren Hibbs though.

That's the million dollar (or $531k) question. What is the standard? I'm not sure I know what mine is. I'm not sure I know what others feel. I'm not sure what's fair anymore, given the change in landscape.

My reference to Valley schools was based on ShockTalk's comment.

Creighton did make three in six years, staring in 2007, for what it is worth. (2007, 2011, 2012)

For what it is worth, Gene did make a lot of money over the last 6 years, but he only made over $500 K this year:

                    Gene's Salary:

                    2007-$354 K
                    2008-$378 K
                    2009-$405 K
                    2010-$433 K
                    2011-$464 K
                    2012-$496 K
                    2013- $531 K

only a 56% winning percentage currently though?

                      • I know a guy who played for Standiford at Tabor during the time he made that program a winner. He had good things to say about Mark and his ability to recruit. He thinks the reason he stayed in the area was not just to have good access to Wichita-area talent, but stay close to the WSU program for when this day arrives. It's possible I could have read a little into what my acquaintance told me, but I don't think so.

Anothing thing to consider is that you also have Greg Brummett nearby who could perhaps come on as pitching coach.

I like Scooter but he just hasn't been successful enough at Charlotte in my opinion to be strongly considered for the WSU job.

No disrespect, but I hope not. Hopes were high for Hibbs when he finally got a HC gig, but he's done less in that capacity (no matter the timeline selected) than the guy we are apparently running off.

                            My recollection as well.

Obviously though, he's not leaving OU for WSU at this point.

                            • Here's a young guy from a winning program with good experience and access to major talent. Could we be looking at seasoned asst. coaches?

There are probably some on this board that remember Golloway trying to fight one of our pitchers and then our entire dugout during the 2002 Wichita regional.
