I'll try and spell this out for you. I agree with you they CAN go hand in hand. If a pitcher is rolling along and the D is making great plays behind him then yes. All i said is if Cy young was out there and you made him get 6 outs in an inning it won't go well. It doesn't matter what level you play, a teams strength is up the middle (Catcher, SS, 2B,Center). Seems as though we have 2 of 4 locked in. Now maybe it's to settle on a middle infield for conference. But at some point you need to go with a kid and leave him out there.

Fair enough, so if a pitcher is wild so he walks 4 (who knows how many long pitching counts are happening), and has 3 batter struck by pitches, so fielders are twiddling their thumbs during long innings (along with poor fielding), most likely bad things will happen. Long innings and long games. Thus good defense and decent pitching go hand in hand. We had seven pitchers last night. Hardly a recipe for success.
