The absolute best thing about Hooper is that he could care less if we look like a DI team getting off the bus.
Hooper’s where we need to go first.

While my preference is toward those with success leading a D1 baseball program, I will dedicate a post to some high-profile assistant coaches.

Kevin McMullin: University of Virginia (2003-Present)
        Position: Associate Head Coach
        Previous: East Carolina (2000-2002)

He has been Virginia's recruiting coordinator for the past 20 years. The program won a national championship in 2015. He has routinely been voted as the assistant coach with the brightest future as a head coach in Baseball America surveys. The Cavaliers have made a regional 17 times in McMullin's time on staff, advanced to 7 Super Regionals, 5 CWS, 1 runner-up, and 1 National Championship.

        -----------------------------------------------------------------

        Nick Schnabel: Clemson
        Position: Assistant Head Coach
        Previous: Michigan (2013-2022)

Schnabel played a major role in building the Michigan program, under the leadership of Erik Bakich, from 2013-2022. He put together one of the highest-ranked recruiting classes in Big 10 history in 2017. The Wolverines were national runner-up in 2019, and made a regional 5 times during Schnabel's tenure. Bakich and Schnabel moved to Clemson for the 2023 season. Clemson had missed the regionals in both 2021 and 2022. Bakich and his staff led Clemson to a 43-17 season, and the Tigers are hosting a regional this week.

        ----------------------------------------------------------------------

        Nate Yeskie: Texas A&M
        Position: Associate Head Coach
Previous: Assistant Coach - Oregon State (2009-2019) and Associate Head Coach - Arizona (2019-2021)

Yeskie is seen as one of the best pitching coaches in the country. He has recruited at every stop. Oregon State won a national championship in 2018, near the end of his time at the school. In 2022, his first season at Texas A&M, the program made a trip to the CWS. They are once again headed to a regional this season.

        ----------------------------------------------------------------------

        Josh Jordan: LSU
        Position: Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Previous: Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Duke (2012-2022)

Jordan is best known for his time at Duke. The program made 4 regionals during his time at the school. Their regional trip in 2016 was the first regional for the program since 1961. Also, the program made its first two trips to Super Regionals during his trip there (2018 and 2019). LSU was one of the better programs in the country this season, and are hosting a regional this week.

What about Nate Thompson at Arkansas? I shudder thinking back to how bad Butler was, but Thompson does have his time
at Arkansas, along with his previous stint at Missouri State.

Rob Walton at OSU. Not sure he would have any interest as he has always been a Cowboy, but I think he would do an amazing job at WSU.

Thompson has had a solid career path. Spent 4 years at Hutch CC, 3 years at Missouri State, and now 6 years at Arkansas. He recruits and his offenses have done a lot of good things.

Can’t see it. Too soon and too many bad memories from the last Arkansas assistant hire.

Thompson certainly cheats (along with DVH) at a high level.

The NCAA has ruined college sports with the NIL money.
