Also as I type this I realize that this is just projection and no I do not expect an at large.
Agreed. Refusing to elevate any expectations or hopes until the series in Terre Haute plays out. 2 out 3 keeps us in the discussion. 3-0 seems impossible, but it would put us in a good spot. Anything else and we can finally close the book on this discussion.

Hoping for the best, bracing for the worst sums up my mindset with this team right now.

Gee, WstateU, thanks -- I've always wondered what our old pal Charlie looked like.

Actually, if a top-45 RPI is what it takes to be an at-large team, the Shocks are definitely within range. Their schedule seems to be helping; Sunday night they were at .5524 and 54th; by gametime tonight it was .5536 and 53rd without even playing. Thanks to K-State's poor record, WSU actually gained less from the home win tonight (now .5541 and 52nd) than they had the previous 48 hours. And Ta is right about this weekend's series -- with IndSt's excellent winning percentage and the road RPI bonus working for the Shocks this time, if they could manage to win two of three it would probably give them a bigger boost than the home series win against DBU did -- very possibly enough to reach the top 45, which is currently anchored by Stetson at .5596 for 45th place (all numbers from Warren Nolan). At that point it would just be a matter of taking care of business the rest of the way, and then of course not flaming out early in the Valley tournament.

So the sunshine is not yet below the horizon for us pumpers -- and, in all seriousness, the team really does seem to be moving in the right direction, which is exactly what one would hope for at this point from a young group.

          Long time no see. :)

The Hogs are still trying to work their way back into a host spot. Maybe if things work out for both our teams you guys could come down to Fayetteville.

I like that idea. Arkansas is a very easy trip and it is a nice ballpark. But we have a lot of business to take care of before we can start thinking about that.

Looks like this weekend is an elimination match.

Very much so. The Pumpers are gonna run with this all the way until their hearts get crushed. It is a nice token recognition piece. That guy is always well respected and knows what he's talking about.

I personally think it's moot for us, but yes, at the very most, it is an elimination match. SB provided an interesting table. We're still not even close to a potential cut line. I will say I'm pretty impressed with our SOS numbers relative to the rest of the mid-major at-large pool. Also the Top 50 and Top 100 wins are up there. However, I still can't get over the 20 losses and our current placement in a mediocre baseball conference. An 11-0 finish would be what we have to do to be strongly considered and that's obviously not gonna happen. The statistics and play throughout the year do not indicate that even a 9-2 finish is possible, which would be what the Pumpers think we need to do to have a chance.

So basically, I hate to be a Debby Downer, but it's Springfield or bust.

Hopefully the Trees will take our young team and old coach for granted and we surprise them. How bad does that sound coming from a Wichita State fan?

                                That was excruciatingly painful.
