Each year we are getting further away from the glory years...and thus...it will be harder and harder to find a top tier coach.

Since several on the board are confident that Gene is the problem, I would like the answer. Not just, "we need a plan." that would be true regardless. I would like specifics on who could do better. And not some wishful pipe dreams either.
I am not saying Gene should stay or go, because as I was always taught, anyone can bring problems, you need to bring solutions. I would like to read about some of this solutions, with specifics.

Speaking of facility improvements have they given up on Phase II of the Building Excellence project? Thankfully we were able to complete Phase I, the IPF and new turf, which were very important. The Phase II items which including a new 3rd base side home team locker room (connected to the 3rd base dugout and to the IPF), satellite training facility and equipment room and relocation of the baseball offices to the 3rd base side. Also there were plans for additional 3d base line seating and concourse area and they were going to lower both dugouts for better sight lines for the players and coaches.
The initial plans were to fund an complete both phases at the same time and as soon as possible, but on a priority basis. I suppose the 3rd base home team locker room would be nice and relocating the baseball offices would also make sense but we certainly don't need the additional seating at this point and I don't think lowering the dugouts is a big priority.
Don't hear much about this anymore so maybe it has just been dropped.

Phase II
New third base side home team locker room (lower level) with dressing area, team room, showers/restrooms, satellite athletic training facility and equipment room. Players will be able to access indoor practice facility and dugout from locker room. First base dugout/locker area will be occupied by the visitors.
Relocation of baseball offices (ground level) and home team dugouts to third base side for convenient access to the new home team locker room and indoor practice facility.
Lower both dugouts for improved sight lines for players and coaches.
Additional third baseline seating and concourse area.

Does the NCAA require a college degree for the head coach or is it a WSU requirement?
If Hooper does not have a degree, which would surprise me, surely there is a work-around.
Even if a degree is required, Hooper probably only needs a few hours for a degree."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

-Try replacing weak schools with schools you know will probably be top 100 or close to it most years (this year was actually solid but most years not so much)
-Don't schedule games tuesday/weds, it worked out this year but most years it doesn't. Usually the weds is a total crap shoot on who wins regardless of the opponent.
-Quit f-ing with hitters when runners are on by calling a hit and run, then after having your hitter rewarded for working a 2-0 count by swinging at a crappy pitch (due to hit and run) don't give him the bunt sign with 1 strike already. Seriously have the players learn to flipping bunt. This is college ball not pros, just putting that pressure on the defense works more often than you think. Especially if you are going to continue to recruit players that are athletes as opposed to baseball players.
-Recruit baseball players and not athletes
-Don't let Brent talk you into a big inning by giving the pitcher too much rope, this isn't minor leagues. Development is good but not first on the list, winning is.
-Hire a new hitting/1b coach, he may be an awesome coach but numbers say otherwise...time to go.
-Why does WSU not recruit north Texas more? Last two I can think of Gardner and Springer, both pretty solid.
-Expand the recruiting, get out and actually recruit. Seems to me most recruiting stories by Paul when a kid signs always has the line "John Doe recommended him and we trust his judgement".
-Maybe do like OU and a few other schools and be willing to give out the bigger scholarship percentage to the better players. Maybe WSU does this but I don't think they give out as big as percentages as some. Also only for the game changing players, but if you are not willing to at least consider this and others are you won't be getting a game changing player.
A LOT OF THIS IS TOTAL CRAP THAT JUST I PULL FROM YOU KNOW WHERE BUT there ya go.Last edited by Ta town; May 30, 2012, 05:47 PM.

When I went to school, the program was full of choadwanks and mooseknuckles. It was hard to root for those guys. Particularly when there were guys like Jason Perez on campus showing the right way to handle your business. Maybe things have changed.Wichita State, home of the All-Americans.

I believe some are providing a solution by wanting a "coach in waiting" to be hired. Someone with a fire in their belly and the energy to go out and do what it takes such as beating the recruiting trails harder and not setting back in their rocking chairs as it would appear to be.
Others feel the current staff, or at least most of it, is out of touch with today's players. You can call that bitching, but the solution is fairly obvious.
In fact, I would say that for most, the complaints may be different, but the solution is about the same.
The only tangible solution fans/big donors/sponsors can provide is with their pocketbook. If their complaints aren't addressed, then they tighten the purse strings a little tighter until someone with real power does something to get things changed.
In one post, @Aargh: made a very good observation regarding the art of bunting. After 30+ years is a light going to go off in Gene's head and he's going to go "Wow, why didn't I think of that"? Some coaches are more flexible to trying something different, approaching things differently. However, again, these coaches are very set in their ways and whatever "those ways" may be are not getting the job done a the level many of these fans believe is attainable.

Krusty on Bruce & Bob. Talking in circles & in total denial about where the program is. He admits there are holes in recruiting and leading these young men. That swoosh Gene hears is the rest of college baseball passing him by. This program is nowhere near close to digging out of the hole he has dug.
